Guest guest
Thanks for replying. As I mentioned, her mom is in denial. I have brought up the subject of putting her in the public school system but she is adamantly against it. They live in Lufkin Tx and she thinks the schools there will corrupt her child. If I try to press the issue she shuts me down and won't listen. I know she has a lot of emotional issues also and refuses to take any advice from anyone. I wonder if I can get the ball rolling by having someone other than family contact her and talk to her. I just don't know who that someone is. I also have 4 kids of my own with problems but I am afraid for this little girl. Thanks for all your help. **************************************See AOL's top rated recipes (http://food.aol.com/top-rated-recipes?NCID=aoltop00030000000004)
Guest guest
i've been on the group IEP guide and it is great. you should try that. there are alot of discussions about services through thte schools, the laws, and what is required, the time frames. I think your great niece at 4 would be in the school system, and her evaluation should be through child find and should not be taking more than 90 days. Guest guest
Hi ... Since your great niece is 4 years old, you should be going through the local school system for an evaluation. She is too old for any Early Intervention. Have her mom give the local school system a call - the Special Services Department - and set up an evaluation. This should not take long. If she makes the call before Christmas, she should have the ball rolling shortly after. To be sure that the school system remains in compliance, she should check out the state's educational website for information on what to expect - it should outline how long to get an evaluation, what the outcome will be, what the criteria are etc. If you would like more information, feel free to contact me. Good Luck! Carla need help with information Hi, I have a four yr old great niece for which whom I am very concerned about. She has never talked in sentences and can't communicate with anyone except for a few words. If you ask her a question she will repeat a phrase over and over related to something totally different than what you asked her. Her parents(my niece) have not taken her for any treatment. They have been on a waiting list for about 6 months now just to have her evaluated. I think they are in denial there is anything wrong. She seems very bright and can repeat abc's and gets the answers right on her learning toys. She is very sweet but will throw tantrums and get frustrated. The parents don't have money to get her privately tested and have to rely on whatever her insurance will cover or government agencies. I would like to be able to give her information on where she could go to get this done sooner. If anyone can give me ideas I would be most grateful. Also any websites with information.Thanks. **************************************See AOL's top rated recipes (http://food.aol.com/top-rated-recipes?NCID=aoltop00030000000004<http://food.aol\ ..com/top-rated-recipes?NCID=aoltop00030000000004>)

Have her call Autism Research Institute or go to their website. THey have a questionaire that they could fill out that would give them some direction as to if she is falling within the spectrum. She does not have to accept the schools services, but she can get an evaluation from them. She will learn that lots of folks homeschool their child with autism. There are even a couple of listserves for that. I too am a homeschooler. Lastly, some universities have free programs for children with autism. If you live near a university, give their speech and education departments a call. ************************************** See AOL's top rated recipes (http://food.aol.com/top-rated-recipes?NCID=aoltop00030000000004)

What my son needed for language is written here http://www.danasview.net/issues.htm >>If you ask her a question she will repeat a phrase over and over > related to something totally different than what you asked her. To eliminate this problem, my son needed anti-virals, B12, TMG, folic acid, and carnitine. Plus yeast control. Dana
Guest guest
If she would be interested in homeschooling her daughter she may want to look at this site: www.ican-do.net The advantage to her would be Christian, homeschool friendly, private, no labels - just treating the issue. There are many locations for evaluations so that also would be a plus. HTH
Guest guest
I knw you said that the mom is in denial and that also they do not trust the school system. How about buying her a copy of Dr. Ken Bock's book?? Healing the New Childhood Epidemics: Autism, ADHD, Asthma and Allergies? It might give her a framework for what she is seeing in her daughter and also it might give her a " reason " to stop being in denial. Since the book is also about allergies (not jut autism), she might not feel threatened by it; and I am not sure there is a family out there who couldn't learn something from it (healthy or otherwise). Good luck! www.leadingorganicskincare.com Certified Organic Products for the Whole Family
