EnzyClass 04: Benefits from Enzyme Therapy

by DeFelice

Now that we know what enzymes are, what types there are, and how enzymes work in

the

body, why should we care? Really, while facts can be interesting, and there are

many more

facts out there, how is this information useful in helping our health both

immediately and

long-term time?

Digestive enzymes used for health benefits have been studied a long time. An

example of

systematic studies and recording of results, particularly for specific

therapeutic uses in

serious illnesses is demonstrated in Beard's work published around 1911 in

the

book, " The Enzyme Treatment of Cancer and its Scientific Basis. " This and other

research

has shown enzymes convey the following health benefits.

1. Food digestion – enzymes break down the food particles so they do not exist

as larger

particles that will physically irritate the gut lining or activate the immune

system. Because

enzymes can process the food particles down to their essential forms, anything

that does

leak through the gut while it is healing is less likely to provoke a negative

reaction.

2. Nutrient and energy release – by breaking food down, enzymes are freeing the

individual vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients so the body can use them as

the raw

materials it needs as well as releasing the energy from your food.

3. Whole-food nutrition – enzymes improve the nutrition coming from the food you

eat,

thus reducing the need for supplemental vitamins, minerals, and other elements

to make

up for what you may have eliminated through food removals. Nutrition from whole

foods

is generally more effective than from many supplements, too.

4. Catch unknown sources of food – enzymes work on the foods you do suspect as

well as

on sources you least suspect as causing a condition. Enzymes act on unknown

sources,

trace amounts, or contamination. Food intolerances usually drop off dramatically

when

enzyme use begins.

5. Support intestinal health – enzymes proactively work to heal tissue. Some

measures

reduce or take away the source of problems and hope the body will spontaneously

recover

on its own. Enzymes do more than that. Enzymes remove many sources of problems

at the

same time, and then go further by also having properties to actively facilitate

healing in

the body. They can act as trash collectors removing dead tissue, debris,

chemicals, and

toxins from the body. This cleaning out allows the gut to heal faster, and

maintain a

healthy digestive tract.

6. Pathogen control – another bonus is that enzymes are effective at clearing

out

pathogens that may cause and contribute to damaging the gastrointestinal tract.

Bacteria

and parasites are made of proteins, viruses have protein coatings or `films,'

and yeasts

have outer shells, consisting of cellulose and protein. Proteases and cellulases

can help

break these intruders down, and then carry off the toxins and dead cells the

destroyed

pathogens leave behind.

7. Removing `gunk' in the body – if the digestive enzymes themselves are

absorbed into

the bloodstream along with the other things, enzymes, especially the proteases

that break

down proteins, travel through the bloodstream cleaning out any gunk, toxins, and

waste

that may be accumulating there. They selectively latch onto toxins and escort

them out of

the body leaving the good tissue and red blood cells to carry on. This

assistance in

cleaning the blood helps relieve the burden on the liver and the immune system.

8. Reduce inflammation – proteases can reduce inflammation in the gut directly.

Material

leaking through the intestinal lining can make its way to joints and aggravate

them to the

point of inflammation, or add to inflammation already started. Inflammation

results in pain

and tissue damage. Bromelain and papain are well-known agents for assisting in

healing

gastric ulcers, although other enzymes can also reduce inflammation.

9. Reuse and multiple action – enzymes may be recycled in the digestive tract,

giving you

a good value from your supplement investment – more than just a one-trip

excursion

through the digestive tract. Enzymes can work on several issues at the same time

maximizing the the healing potential of this supplement.

Digestive enzymes tackle problems on several fronts and this may be the reason

enzymes

have such an unusually high success rate and wide range of improvements.

Different

individuals may be benefitting from enzymes for different reasons.

In tracking results from 2001 with typical families using therapeutic enzymes in

daily life

and following the guidelines developed from the enzymes and autism group, about

93% of

all individuals see success of some kind.

Results are usually evident anywhere from the first dose to within 3-4 weeks.

Usually, you

can tell if enzymes are effective with the first bottle's worth. If no

improvements are seen

with one bottle, try at least one other different enzyme product before giving

up

completely. It could be you needed a different targeted product, or a second

product is

just more effective for you.

This means that most people can see improvements by the time they get to the end

of one

bottle of a quality enzyme product. One bottle, one month, and typically under

$50 - that

is your investment in trying enzymes. And if they do not work out for you, you

haven't

mortgaged your house. You do not have to change any diet, supplement,

medication, or

therapy to try enzymes. Just add them to whatever you are currently doing.

Typically reported improvements seen by families dealing with autism,

neurological,

behavioral, or digestive problems in both children and adults when following the

relatively

new guidelines follow:

Increase in eye contact

Increase in all aspects of language

Increase in humor

Improvement in sleep

Increase in foods tolerated

Increase in foods accepted by child's choice

Weight gain, if needed

Weight loss and reduction in badgering for food, if needed

Improvement in stools/bowels regularity

Better skin color and overall appearance

Improvement in transitioning

Increase in desire for physical activity when previously sluggish

Decrease in general anxiety and negative hyperness

Decrease in self-injurious behavior

Improvement in socialization

Increase in awareness

Increase in problem solving

Improvement with short-term memory

Less adherence to routine

Increase in range of interests

Better sound tolerance

Better light and color tolerance / reduced sensitivity

Improvement in other sensory issues

Decrease in aggression

Decrease in hyperness

Increase in affection

Better mood and overall attitude

Another general improvement is that enzymes enhance the effectiveness of other

supplements, diets, and therapies. So you may see your overall program become

much

more effective when you start enzymes. Given how relatively inexpensive, easy to

give, and

fast acting enzyme are, it is generally worth at least a trial especially

considering the wide

range of potential improvements.
