Calcium and magnesium do share left and right hand receptors on the cells, like many minerals which are opposite each other, so that is why you take them together. Taking one without the other depletes the other. However, most of us are lower on magnesium than calcium. I don't have candida, so I've found the levels that work best for me, which is 175 mg calcium and 450 mg magnesium. Sometimes I take 150 mg magnesium extra, depending upon how much calcium I get in my diet during the day. For more information about minerals and balancing them, etc. see: http://www.acu-cell.com/ The best, Bee
Guest guest
I just bought Calcium Magnesium Citrate in liquid form for the boys. It says to take 1Tbsp (300IU Magnesium, 600IU Calcium, 400IU Vitamin D.) What would be a good dosage for a 3 and 4 yr old boy? Both weigh about 32 lbs. Also, we just started enzymes, probiotics and OLE, small doses. Should we wait a couple of weeks before adding the calcium magnesium citrate? Main concern originally was that I have greatly limited all diary products. I tried calcium chewy vitamins, but seemed to have behavior issues. Wasn't sure if it was from that or something else. Then I read about calcium and magnesium needing to be given together at a 2:1 ratio. And had also read about individuals with autism having low magnesium levels. Nutritionist wants my oldest to have more calcium because of his limited diet. I also have limited diary for my youngest, because there is no way to give a glass of milk to one and not the other at this age. I'm hoping that once enzymes start working and the diet in increased, we can stop the calcium/magnesium. Any more feedback on this would be great... just so I know I'm still on the right track. Guest guest
Adequate Intake (AI) for calcium: 1-3 years: 500 mg 4-8 years: 800 mg RDA for Magnesium: 1-3 years: 80 milligrams 4-8 years: 130 milligrams I think the 2:1 ratio applies to adults as you can see by the AI/RDA. RDA is a bare minimum, so you could go higher. When they get too much they'll start to get diarrhea. But if your 3yo is going to get 500mg of calcium via just supplements, then 250mg of magnesium might be too much. Start slowly and gradually increase dosage until bowels become lose, then cut down a little. Also, does your bottle say what the elemental calcium and magnesium amounts are? Calcium citrate is calcium and citrate, so it could have 500 mg calcium and 100 mg citrate (I'm just making up these numbers). So my 4yo gets about 1-2 tsp of his liquid cal/mag/D combo for magnesium, and I give him extra calcium+D if he didn't eat enough foods containing calcium, etc. (RDA for D is ridiculously low. My chiro said I should give my 4yo 1000IU/day during winter mths.) For calcium source, check this site: http://www.whfoods.com/genpage.php?tname=nutrient & dbid=45 I also started making bone broths for calcium and minerals. The recipes are towards the end of the page. Make sure to get organic meets/bones. http://www.westonaprice.org/foodfeatures/broth.html You could start cal/mag now unless you want to make sure they can tolerate the supplements they just started. When I measure on the 1/2 tsp, the eggshell almost fills the spoon, but does not go all the way to the top edge. Does that sound right? > > +++Hi Leesa. Sorry, but I would have to calculate the number of milligrams you are taking in order to advise you, so please write in the amount of milligrams with each dose above. > ###I did the figuring on the magnesium. In the morning I am taking about 393mg and 550mg in the evening. > Are you having any tea too? Or are you eating a lot of greens, or taking any supplements other than those I recommend? Are you taking baking soda? Or are you taking too much cod liver oil, particularly vitamin D? I have been drinking hot tea 1-2 times a day to put CO in. But those cups are generally 1/2-3/4 cup. I usually have a salad daily with 1/2 cup romaine or green leaf. Occasionally I have kale or other green. Occasionally if I have some bloating or gas, I'll drink 1/2 tsp of baking soda in 1/2cup water to try and relieve the gas. I do take CLO--Blue Ice Fermented CLO from Green Pastures. Sorry--I know it is not your favorite brand. Before I started the diet, I had just ordered a case of this CLO. I did the same thing last year to save money. Two to three years ago I switched from Garden of Life CLO to Green Pastures because of the higher vitamin content in Green Pastures. Unfortunately with the new label of the fermented CLO, I'm having problems determining how much Vitamin D is in a serving. The label states for a 2 ml(which is more than 1/4 tsp and less than 1/2 tsp) serving Vit A 74%DV and Vit D 190%DV. I've been taking a little over 1 1/2 tsp (8 ml) of the CLO a day. I think it is probably more Vit D than you recommend. Before I started this diet I was taking 2 tsp/day. A vitamin D test I had done last year showed my level to be at 71. Do I need to cut back?
