Hi,

Here are the Thryoid panel results for my 7.5 yr old non-verbal

autistic son. We are into round 33 of ALA chelation(taking a break

from DMSA after using it for 6 rounds due to low neutrophils).

TSH - 2.425 (ref range: 0.370 - 6.0)

T4 - 12.0 (ref range: 4.5 - 12.0)

T3 Uptake - 26 (ref range: 24 - 33)

Free Thyroxine Index - 3.1 (ref range: 1.2 - 4.9)

Free T4 - 1.19 (ref range: 0.81 - 1.68)

Free T3 - 3.7 (ref range: 2.9 - 6.0)

I have been following the recent posts from /Anne on thryoid,

and searching in the archives, this is what I figured out:

TSH - way high(should be less than 1.5)

Free T4 - is not in the upper half of the range(ideally above 1.23)

Free T3 - is not in the upper quarter of the range(should be above

5.2)

These results suggests he needs thyroid support, but he has

hyperthryoid symptoms like coarse dry thick hair, heat intolerance,

does not sweat, does not gain weight easily, very skinny(weighs only

48lbs) and tall for his age. His body temperture was averaging

around 97.9, with the early morning temperatures averaging around

97.6.

Is armour used only for hypothryoid issues? His hair tests also show

that he has both thyroid and adrenal issues(thank you so much

for helping me with the hair test interpretation).

His K/Ca ratio is 0.59 which is way out of range implying high

thryoid levels. His Na/Mg is out of range suggesting adrenal issues.

I have started him on Adrenal Cortex extract(1/4 cap daily). My

question is what to do with the thyroid issues. With his T4 being so

high my concern is would armour cause any problems(with the T4:T3 as

4:1)? What does such high level of T4 mean? Does too much iodine

cause high T4 levels? I took out the iodized salt and replaced it

with sea salt. His T4 to T3 conversion definetely seemed to be

messed up, would adding more selenium help with the conversion? Does

this call for checking his liver enzymes?

I'm so confused b/c searching on google I found that cytomel is for

just T3 alone, but I have read in other sites that giving just T3 is

not advisable.

Thanks in advance for your help!
