Guest guest
Pam (or anyone who would like to answer), I hope you get a nice pull on this test!! I'll cross my fingers for you. I'm curious, you said you bumped up to 25mg. Is there a point where we should up the dose? We are doing about 8.5mg (he is 37 pounds) now (every 4 hours) and have been for 5 rounds now. Thanks and good luck! Let us know when you get your results. Molly > > Hi all, > > I chelated my son with TD-DMSA for about 15 months. Nice gains, no > miracles. Guest guest
I don't think you are supposed to increase the chelators by more than 50% at any one time, would have made the uppermost range of dmsa, just 18-19 mgs. Hopefully everything is going fine. [ ] Woah: stinky DMSA urine! Hi all, I chelated my son with TD-DMSA for about 15 months. Nice gains, no miracles. After not seeing any significant metals dumped on 3 separate DDI urine toxic metals tests, and hearing Andy call TD-DMSA a " fad " time and time again, I made the switch to oral DMSA 6 weeks ago. I've noticed an odor to his urine on each round. Today I collected urine for the first random DDI urine toxic metals on oral DMSA. STINKY!!!! What a strong odor of DMSA/sulfur. It was impressive. I started him on 12.5 mgs but jumped him up to 25 mgs/dose this weekend since he did so well for 5 weeks on the lower dose. I'm wondering, did his TD-DMSA urine not smell at all because he wasn't absorbing much DMSA? At his high point, I was giving him nearly .5 ml every 3.5 hours (Lee Silsby: translates to 100 mgs DMSA per TD application). Keep your fingers crossed that I'll finally see some metals in the urine. If the smell has anything to do with it... we're golden! Anyone else notice this change when they switched to oral? Pam p.s. I'm re-adding oral ALA (20 mgs) next round. That is where I saw the most improvement last time. He took it for 8 months at that dose but I removed it temporarily when we made the DMSA switch. Guest guest
Well, I see I'm being cautioned about upping the dose so drastically! I don't know if I did the right thing, but my son was just fine this weekend on 25 mgs. I can see if I upped it over the 1/4-1/2 mg per lb recommendation... but I didn't. Also, we had been on TD-DMSA for 15 months prior so I didn't think it would be a problem. So, you might not wish to follow my lead! Personally, I would up the dose a little after 6 rounds if all was well (especially since you are already at a low dose) and if my son wasn't a sensitive kid. I'd prefer to be at the high end of the dosing (1/2 mg per lb) if tolerated. Increasing the dose to 10 mgs on round 7 sounds just great to me! Guest guest
Well, so far so good. I hope I did the right thing. The only reason I'm not too upset over your post is that we are still at 1/2 mg per lb... not excessive. I'll keep an eye on it. I have a script for a CBC and Metabolic panel in my wallet. I'll have some blood drawn after 3 rounds on 25 mgs to make sure his liver and kidneys are OK (they always were on TD- DMSA). Thanks for the word of caution. Guest guest
Pam to answer your question about the sulfur smell to the urine, I have never smelled this when on chelation rounds, however I have heard others remark on this so don't think it's any particular sign of detox that I know of, just a function of how some people metabolize it.
