I am not a fan of pull-ups Or use the undies and the plastic pants- I think s mum used them????????????????????????? We purched them from http://www.plastic-pants.com/ They were good quality..... the only problem is that the ones I ordered were too big, and they are not returnable (for health reasons), so measure carefully. was sleeping when I was online, so I tried to measure her in bed, and then just rounded up (too much I guess :-) This way, you can get rid of the comfey pullups, give them the yukky wet feeling without soaking the furniture, beds and floors. I still had beach towels on the places she sat, just in case, and a waterproof pad in the carseat. I am not a fan of cleaning up after a kid having lots of wet accidents, and this really helped. Guest guest Posted March 6, 2004 Report Share Posted March 6, 2004 the best advice i can give is let your child go at there own pace this is what my dr had told me and its exactly what i did sooner or later they will hate being wet or poopied frankie is 6 and i let him go at his own pace and when he started to hate being wet i decided to try underware it did take a while but adventuly he started to use the potty now he wont go in there alone he will mostly always tell me when he has to go and sometimes he does have accidents but we have made great pregress now the only thing is he will only go number 2 here and not at other peoples houses he likes his potty chair .... hope this helps a little be patient it will happen ....angel -- Potty Training? I find that even now, will have a rare accident, and if she is busy doing something fun (like the computer), she will not tell me or go change (and she has been daytime trained for about a year now). If she has an accident in the bathroom (like the other day, when she couldn't get her jeans down fast enough :-), then she will tell me. I think letting them FEEL the wet is very important (which is why training in Pullups usually does not work), but not all kids (even kids that are ready to be trained) care about wetness.... it's just not a big deal to some kids,. If he did #2 on himself, I would take him to the bathroom, show him where number 2 needs to go and sit him on the toilet as well. Boys are different, you just have to make a habit of doing that every once in a while. One morning we were getting ready for school and in the midst of chainging him, I ran to the kitchen. As I was coming back to the bedroom I heard him in the bathroom, I was so amazed because finally it paid off. After then no more training pants, I would make him say, " bathroom please " . Also a great thing available now are potty training videos, I've never seen one but I heard they help a lot. If you have a ceramic toilet seat put paper down, because my son hated that next to his skin, they have tons of sensory problems. To get him to stop wetting the bed I would wake him up @midnight and tell him go the bathroom, preferably get a man to take him as often as possible. Hope this helps, and have ablessed day. Guest guest Posted January 6, 2009 Report Share Posted January 6, 2009 I didn't potty train any of my kids. I just showed them what big people do by taking them to the bathroom with me. All of them caught on fast. The oldest daughter did have a control problem. I took her to the doctor and it turned out she had a deformed kidney and a deformed bladder and a chronic kidney infection. Had I waited much longer to take her to the doctor she may have gone into renal failure. Alden is put to bed in blanket sleepers with the feet cut off and we turn them around backward so that if he has a bowel movement he cannot get into it. He is baby gated at night time, so he cannot really " train " , even if he did want to get up and go to the potty. He just turned 7. I can't see that pattern changing for a time. We work on the potty training during the day and I give a schedule to the school (that changes if we see fit). He has only initiated going to the potty a few times to pee. He has " accidentally " poo'd on the potty 3 times total. One day, he didn't poop at all because he just refused to do it on the potty and we were going quite frequently. I am trying to keep him in underwear at home during the day. I try to watch his behavior and take him on a regular basis. He does not mind going to sit on the potty but sometimes he does not want to stop what he is doing, as any kid in training. But mostly, he is just beginning to realize that he is starting to wet his pants and just beginning to initiate the process of going to the bathroom on his own to pee. I expect he is getting very close to " getting it " but I am not holding my breathe for any quick turn around. I have watched for signs that I might be able to gate the hallway and make sure there is nothing in the bathroom for him to get into but I just cannot take the chance. When we are sleeping, he is a danger to himself. I can just see him filling the tub or scalding himself by turning on the water. I dont know how long this is going to take, as far as night-time. We are trying very hard to work the potty boot camp and I need to make a report soon, but things are never as smooth with this little guy. Life does take over and get in the way. I also thought that there might be a time that I could at least put a potty chair in his room at night but I can see (by his past and present behavior) that is NOT going to work either. Not yet, at least. I do think that the low muscle tone makes a big difference for some of our children, as far as control, what they are feeling, and especially bowel control. All kids are different and the extremes go from one end to the other, for sure! LOL. Alden likes stickers and we utilize those. With his eating issues, food doesn't do a darned thing. I will be making him a prize bag for when he initiates for BM's soon. Since he is happy with stickers and his Elmo potty chair for peeing, I don't see any reason to raise any reward in that dept. He did get to pick out his own underwear on our last shopping trip. That was funny. I talk to him often about when he is potty-trained, and he wears big boy pants ALL of the time with no accidents then we can begin to think about a puppy. I noticed the other day, he sat and pee'd (when I took him) and as he sat there he grinned and said, " I want a puppy Mom " . LOL. So here's to puppies and dry pants! I just flat out told all 3 of my children that I did not plan to potty train a puppy along with a child, so we all have to help Alden get it down. They are all being very helpful to " win " the big prize! One of my problems is that he's too big for the little potty chairs (we have gone through several types) and he's too small to be comfortable on the big toilet... so we have him straddle the big toilet backwards. He will urinate every time we put him on and has accidently had bm's twice. No reward affects him. He makes no knowledge of going potty whether he is or not.. if you are changing his diaper he will just pee while he is laying there with no problem. He has several bm's a day so we can't get that organized. At night he wears a blanket sleeper backwards with a size 3 diaper inside a size 6 diaper inside plastic pants and he still often leaks through... and he doesn't drink that much and nothing after dinner. He takes melatonin at dinner so he will sleep better than he does, but he still sleeps pretty fitfully. In fact, we have had to move all dressers out of his room because he spends his time emptying them into a big pile on the floor. What a stinker. I don't know if he'll ever get the potty bit down. Maverick was potty trained to urinate in kindergarten when the rest of the class went potty and he followed along. Then, he always had his bm after dinner so we'd sit in the bathroom and read and do flash cards or practice counting everynight. So, he was trained for the most part by 7.. still with occasional accidents but not that many. It helped that he was so regular. LOL.
