elevated ALT/SGPT means what???

Hi again,

Busy day of posting questions for me!

The DAN! doctor's office just called (Usman). My son's comprehensive

panel drawn last week shows slightly elevated liver enzymes:

specifically ALT/SGPT of 39 (normal range 10-25 U/L). They call that

slightly elevated.

I don't have the results in front of me yet, but according to the

nurse every other value was within normal range (CBC and

Comprehensive).

Looking back on 4 other panels run over the past 2 years shows a

history of slightly elevated ALT/SGPT (30 U/L) and top of the

reference range values (25 U/L) the rest of the time. In all cases,

every other liver enzyme value is within normal range.

Is this something to be concerned about? He has been taking milk

thistle regularly up until 3 weeks ago when my bottle ran out. If

this is the only out of range value do I need to cut back on

chelation to every other weekend (which was recommended).

He takes 25 mgs oral DMSA and 12.5 mgs oral ALA. Can I do just oral

ALA rounds for a while and allow the liver to 'rest'? Will that help?

Thanks!

Pam
