Guest guest
Hi @ll, Amara and I went to the Ped this morning and this is what happened. First the Ped tried all the other stuff: it's a girl she will grow hair nobody will notice...blah blah blah. So for my peace of mind I did ask for a referral to the neurology dept. She elected to send us to X-ray first. I tell you, this took forever. All together there were 9 X-rays taken. The Radiologist concluded that Amara's sutures are closed on the right side. Went back to Ped. The referral was waiting for us already. She even spoke to somebody at neurology. So our next app is April 13th. (That was the earliest appt I could get,if they would have referred me to a civilian neurologist the wait would have been 6-8 weeks, reminder we are active duty military) Now I have more questions since I recovered from the shock. What does that mean for Amara that her sutures are closed? Why is that so bad? Don't they usually close anyway? Or is it because she is only 6 months old that makes it significant? The Ped did take all the information that I had with me, that I printed from the Internet. If nothing else, she will be better educated now. I sure wish time would go faster,4 weeks seems to be a long time away. Thanks Kris and Amara Sky 09-25-
Guest guest
Kris, I don't want to alarm you, but it sounds like craniosynostosis rather than positional plagiocephaly if the sutures are closed. Usually the sutures in the head do not start closing that early. We have people in this group whose children have craniosynostosis and hopefully one of them will answer your post. Craniosynostosis is usually not treated with a helmet to start with. I would hope that your specialist will recommend a 3D CT scan or an MRI to be SURE that the sutures are closed. Craniosynostosis is usually treated through a surgical procedure and sometimes a helmet or band is wore post- operatively. You might check out the following webpage - it offers info on plagio and cranio - the address: CAPS2000.org Please keep us posted.
