Donna,

That is so funny, Seth's teacher and I just had a talk about his " exploring "

his voice too! Low screams, high screams, short ones, long-long- long ones!

LOL I went running the first couple of days of it thinking he was hurt. Now

I can tell, well, most of the time, if it's a hurt cry or not. LOL Teacher

told me it was music to her ears....she must be deaf!!!! LOL Actually, I am

very tolerant of it too, just another small step forward-Hope it's a really

small step and doesn't take long to climb it! LOL Luck to all the moms of

screamers. LOL

My normal 14 month old does that. Maybe it's a developmental thing. I heard

that DS kids have their autism " come out " later because they aren't

developmentally 2 year olds until later. was about 5.

But my 14 month old will let out the kind of scream that makes you come running,

and it may be because he can't pick up the blanket because he's standing on it.

I used to think it was because did something to him, but would be

standing there with a baffled look on his face.

Yeah !! I can relate! Amy chooses to scream like that through the night

sometimes ! It used to scare me so much at first! I thought the

neighbors would call 911 thinking I was torturing her !! lol

Carol,

I agree that screaming offers some relief to tensions and

frustrations. Last year, our photography darkroom (I advise my

school's yearbook or annual) became the scream room for the

students on the staff when the deadlines came crashing upon

them. I surprised my students by going into the darkroom one

day and screaming. They thought that only students had

frustrations that warranted a scream. We had a good laugh

about my scream, and everyone's tension just melted.

I encourage the students to release their tension with a scream

now and then. It is not healthy to keep frustrations inside.

Enjoy a good scream today.

Does anyone have issues with screaming? I realize that a lot of the

time he's trying to tell us something. However, as he gets older he

gets much louder! The screaming has been a goal of ABA therapy, but

not much progress has been made.

Yes. We do. Our son is 11 and is at times very loud. He usually does this

when he's upset or frustrated and he is verbal but also when he is

constipated. Sometimes it is really hard to tell whats going on. Any

suggestions

would be great.

Is he trying to communicate? Is he in pain or uncomfortable?

HI Kate,

What's his diet like? How old is he? When was his most recent vaccine? Does

he have any mercury amalgam dental fillings? Is anyone trying to teach him any

alternative method of communication like sign or PECS? How's his receptive

language?

Screaming is one form of communication, unfortunately it's a tough one to

interpret. Does he not scream at night? When was his last physical? Have UTI

and ear infection been ruled out? Is he teething? What supps or meds is he on?

Teeth grinding is often connected with zinc deficiency. My nephew with

vaccine-induced autism screamed day and night for 3 days after the vaccine that

caused his autism. He was unconsolable.

My son Ethan screams all day long!!!! He only cries every now and then and I

can tell that he is in pain when it's happening, but when he screams he

stimms on that scream . He doesn't enjoy it exactly but he doesn't seem to not

enjoy it either. Could this be signs of severe abdominal pain? Along with his

teeth grinding? His teeth are almost gone by the way!

No joke.....I should put a video on you tube. IT'S ALL DAY!!!! He screams

really loud and long and then takes a deep breath and does it again. OVER AND

OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER

AND OVER AND OVER!

hello,

My son is the same way.. it is a stim .. I have to remove him from what ever he is yelling at and ask him to be quite and give him a new thing to play.. I have a pecs picture that says be quite please and it works for a while then he needs to be reminded.. it is very annoying so i understand completely what it is like.

-- Screaming

Hi, I was wondering if anyone has a child that screams? My daughter is almost 4 and non verbal. She does this thing where she screams. Sometimes she does it all day and sometimes it's louder than usual. Yesterday she did it all day and it was very loud and annoying. When she has something in her hand it gets worse. I don't know if it's some type of stim or what. Any input will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
