Guest guest
Some parents have found it better just to stop trying to trick the kids and instead make supplement taking a non-negotiable part of their daily routine. As you can already see, he'll start refusing things he normally eats if he suspects you've been messing with them. That is not a great trend to start. It is tough; especially when the kids aren't able to swallow pills. The sheer number of supplements we often use on a daily basis is enough to make ME irritable! What are you trying to give him? Some supplements are better disguised in certain foods. I don't blame him for refusing protein powder... I don't particularly care for it. Guest guest
I mix 5 opened capsules, CLO and pycnogenol in 2 ounces of berry juice, 1 ounce of pear juice and 1 ounce of water along with 1/2 t. of sprinkle fiber in a small covered container and shake it up until as smooth as possible, then using a bulb syringe, I put the contents into a 4 ounce juice box that I reuse twice a day and my son sips it during the course of the morning/early evening. I don't trick him, it's just his juice and I tell him there's lots of good vitamins and minerals in there and it hasn't been a problem. He also takes zinc, Nystatin and 6 drops of a homeopath that I give in a 2 teaspoon syringe twice daily that he just takes like a trooper. It is very challenging at times for all concerned to get all the supplements down. What works for one child/family doesn't work for all. Good luck! > > How you all give kids supplements, etc. My son is kind of hard to > trick, does not even like taste of protein powder. Guest guest
I used to give nasty tasting supplements in POM juice or other pomegranite juice mix. Also, Naked and Odwalla fruit shakes hide things well. It doesn't take much of this juice. Perhaps just mix all of this in a shot glass of strong juice like POM and make him take it instead of trying to fool him. He's going to become a real clever little detective. You might try a liquid milk thistle. I don't remember that one being hard to mask. Interesting he doesn't mind the oils; usually that texture is so offensive! POM is great at hiding dirt-like probiotics. How old is your son? If you ordered DMSA in 25 mg capsules, I would just bite the bullet and teach him to swallow pills. It made my life SO much easier when that skill was mastered. We are still only able to swallow 25 mg size caps, but it really helps. Messing with missing doses of a chelator due to resistent kids isn't good. I wish you luck. Some of these things might get easier as you chelate and your child progresses. They knew they had no choice but to eat it. They also knew that none of their regular food would be " tainted " . Guest guest
I open the capsule and mix the contents with water, then give it from a small medical syringe (without the needle, of course). My son is a picky eater, so i never know whether he would or would not eat or drink smth and mixing with food was just a waste of time and supps. My method is a bit tough but at least i know for sure that he really had all the supps. > > How you all give kids supplements, etc. My son is kind of hard to > trick, does not even like taste of protein powder. I make goodies like chocolate mousse or jello (I use fruit juices + agar-agar), open up capsules of supplements into them, mix well and you can't even tell they're there. So, for the 6.pm supps, I give him a little treat. You can mix supplements into anything, just remember that it's wiser to only put minerals into foods you take to the oven. a
