Guest guest
Two years ago, I switched from synthetic thyroid hormone to Armour. I take 60 mg Armour, twice daily. The following are my recent Quest lab results: T-3 uptake 33 (22-35%) T-3, free 358 (230-420) T-4, free 1.0 (0.8-1.8) T-4 (thyroxine), total 5.7 (4.5-12.5) Free T-4 Index 1.9 (1.4-3.8) TSH 0.05 (0.40-5.50) *LOW-OUT OF RANGE* Thyroid Peroxidase Antibodies <10 (<35) Thyroglobulin Antibodies 20 (<20) *HIGH-OUT OF RANGE* Thyroglobulin 13.4 (2.0-35.0) I never have had any symptoms associated with hypothyroidism. My hypothyroidism was diagnosed at age 20 during a routine physical (soon after receiving my first amalgams). We've been trying to conceive # 3 for four months without success, though timing has definitely been at least part of the problem. (We are trying for a girl using " Taking Charge of Your Fertility " , and it is a bit difficult to predict the right timing.). But, I am unfortunately over that magical age of 35, making me old in the pregnancy world. Today, I saw a " holistic " gynecologist who actually doesn't seem holistic at all. She said that my thyroid condition is autoimmune (thus the high thyroglubulin antibodies) and that I therefore should be using synthetic T-4 only rather than Armour. She said that my TSH is part of why I have not conceived. She also said that using Armour in pregnancy rather than T-4 would cause developmental issues in my baby!!! She wants me to switch to Synthroid for 60 days before trying to conceive again! She says I cannot conceive now without endangering my baby, and that I would likely miscarry anyway. The doctor was surprised that I have a low (healthy) pulse and low (healthy) blood pressure. With my TSH level, she expected cardiac issues! I also tested my FSH and E2 on day 3. If anyone here has experience with that, I would love to discuss. My numbers seem very good, yet this dr. is saying that I need to use meds to conceive. I'm not a big fan of doing that. All input is very much appreciated! Thanks!

This is the usual lack of anything passing for ethics or integrity in the world of licensed health care professionals. They just say anything they can think of to get you to do what they want without any regard for its truth or any feeling that they should actually have some technical understanding of what they're discussing. Guest guest
I too have Hashimotos hypothyroidism and have been on full replacement armour thyroid for 14 years. I simply told the Dr about the research I had done on the Armour and told him I wanted that or I would either find another MD or take nothing.( first try to make him feel you really dont want to leave but you willl if necessary) These Drs have been taught that they need to give you something for your money when you leave (ie, prescription in hand) so they dont want you to walk out empty handed. He will probably have a hissy fit, but it usually works, ( I realize some times it may not) but it always works for me) HTH Blessings Conrad In , " andrewhallcutler " <AndyCutler@...> wrote: > > > Today, I saw a " holistic " gynecologist who actually doesn't seem > > holistic at all. Guest guest
-Absolutely don't switch and find a new doctor. She's not holistic and from what she said very condescending and threatening. The Naturalthyroidhormone group may be useful to you (or HormonesHealthNaturally). Also, low progesterone can cause problems getting pregnant. How is your progesterone levels??? Armour will not hurt your baby..what a load of crap. What will hurt your baby is having substandard levels of thyroid hormone from synthetic T4 in your body. TSH is not relevant if your on therapy..all it means is that your getting the hormones you need. TSH is only the hormones your pituitary sends out to signal the thyroid to work. In your case, not much is needed because your pituitary sees your thyroid as working due to Armour. Your TSH if fine. Autoimmune thyroid disease responds better to Armour..which will keep your immune system from destroying what's left of your thyroid. Low BP and Low pulse are signs of adrenal fatigue (bet she missed this). Are you on support for adrenals? You may need to be because your on Armour. Also, for infertility issues, don't forget to check on dad's status, make sure he is eating healthy and all that jazz. And read Dr. Lee's book, what your doctor may not tell you about perimenopause. This has a lot of info on problems getting pregnant. I would run from this doctor...she is totally wrong. And to tell someone they would miscarry for taking Armour..is just stupid and being a bully. She is trying to scare you into doing things her way, which is wrong. -- In , " mom114425 " <JLJukoski@...> wrote: > > Two years ago, I switched from synthetic thyroid hormone to Armour. > I take 60 mg Armour, twice daily. > > The following are my recent Quest lab results: > T-3 uptake 33 (22-35%) > T-3, free 358 (230-420) > T-4, free 1.0 (0.8-1.8) > T-4 (thyroxine), total 5.7 (4.5-12.5) > Free T-4 Index 1.9 (1.4-3.8) > TSH 0.05 (0.40-5.50) *LOW-OUT OF RANGE* > Thyroid Peroxidase Antibodies <10 (<35) > Thyroglobulin Antibodies 20 (<20) *HIGH-OUT OF RANGE* > Thyroglobulin 13.4 (2.0-35.0) > > I never have had any symptoms associated with hypothyroidism.
