Guest guest
Hi Joyce, PECs (Picture Exchange Communication System) might be helpful but those pictures are typically smaller than flash cards. Abilitations catalog has some photograph cards and some with drawings. Their website is down this weekend for maintenance so you may need to wait until Monday or Tuesday to look at it. How old is the individual? Is he or she getting speech services? Guest guest
I bought flashcards when my son was first starting to talk. They are NOT cheap. If you have a digital camera, the time and the energy, you can snap tons of photos yourself and have them printed out. Guest guest
You can get some great flashcards and board books in your local dollar store. PECS are an excellent way to encourage very young children to talk, and great assistance for AS children. The dollar store is an excellent source for these kinds of things. Great board books, only $1. Flash cards (I'm using these for multiplication) only $1. Dollar tree has some wonderful teaching items, only $1. each! Guest guest
Try here http://www.augresources.com/ and we sometimes go to a school supply store for flash cards that teachers use and other supplies that you just wont find at Wal-Mart or Office Max. Check out your local phone book for any of these stores in your area but check and see that it is opened to the public because sometimes it is for teachers only. Guest guest
I have bought various flashcards at Staples and use them with my clients, some of whom are verbal and some are not. There's a set for identifying and adding coins, one with 3-cards sequences called Sequence Rummy which can be used to tell short little stories or read the ones printed on the backs. I also have a deck with three-letter words with each letter and 1/3 of the picture per card. They're all the same brand but are out in the car or at the office so I'll have to check later. They have others including a make-your-own deck, these just happen to be the ones I have. Guest guest
Please look at these links below, one may be of some help. Not sure but I think the first set may be used once you have a few sounds developed to promote speech. These cards can be used along with a working language program when approximation and/ or you only have sounds that need shaping into language. I believe strongly in encouraging " functional language " without the use of programs like Pecs. However do believe in real pictures that the child has in there every day environment. This model would be for the early learner to originally use/ promote language, but note: must fade out to more functional language. This means not be dependent on any picture exchange program. IMO this only frustrates the child and there are many other options that are much more effective. If a child were not able to even get words approximations and or sounds, then sign would first be used as the first line of communication that will develop into functional language. If a child has no sounds at all to work with, in this case a child would use sign, working into a language program, hoping to develop sounds, and or approximations, which again would be shaped into real functional language. I think I may have strayed from the originila Q of just looking for flash cards to propmote speech , but hope someone may benefit from these . As always my best Kenny v Kaufman Speech Praxis Materials This unique material (manual and approximately 200 stimulus picture cards) helps http://www.kidspeech.com/index.php?page=36 http://www.kidspeech.com/index.php?page=42 Here a link to get allot of cards/ games learning tools working within language teaching programs etc… http://www.difflearn.com/www/ ABA/VB resources Here is a great resource that is used to teach VB/ABA . Well worth to print out and take a good look. It is an instructional manual to teach the methodology. This is not from our school but is the same type of program that we are currently using. http://www.mariposaschool.org/programs/TrainingManual.pdf You can also go to this link and see supporting materials. http://www.difflearn.com/products.asp?dept=4 http://www.difflearn.com/products.asp?dept=3 Look for the ABBLS supporting material for a non-verbal child. (Note: stay away from the Pecs program) Best is to go to a workshop and see it modeled. Awesome for the early learner from 3-5 years old. But can be used for older non-verbal children Some RDI support http://www.kidsahead.net/index.html http://www.rdiconnect.com/ > > > > Hi to All; > > Does anyone know where you can buy flash cards with different things > to > > learn for kids that are non-verbal , so they can be repeated over > and > > over., thanks in advance.
