If you put a nice uneven heat stress on them using radiation heat transfer (infrared sauna) where the heat flux is not nice and even over most of their body their autonomic nervous systems can't handle it and they can get really sick. I have heard this story often. Also most of the saunas are glued together with phenol/formaldehyde glue and the fumes from this - and from the pine used in most of them - are not well tolerated by many toxic folk. > Isn't this another way for the body to excrete toxins (in addition to urine, feces and hair)? Yes. I'm not against the sweating, I am against the inappropriate and unnatural heat transfer arrangement plus the exposure to fumes. IF you want your kid to sweat, give him a hot bath, or take him in the jacuzzi. Or get a regular sauna. > Thanks, > > > >
Guest guest
Andy's reply to why he is against FIR saunas included this: > Also most of the saunas are glued together …. > ... the exposure to fumes. This " toxic sauna " factor is made more complicated by several companies blatantly misrepresenting how they build their saunas. This includes saunas promoted to parents of autistic children! If you are inquiring about saunas, it is not enough to ask about this verbally. You must get statements of construction in-writing. Guest guest
Andy, How do we know that regular saunas are made safely without toxic glues & pesticides? If regular saunas are best is it fine just to use a regular dry heat sauna at a gym? If you give your child or yourself a hot bath as a way to sweat aren't you taking in heavy metals from the water? What if your child or yourself doesn't sweat in a hot bath? Guest guest
Carolyn, I have read on this list that you can use a sauna at a gym if you simply don't have access to a clean, non-toxic one. It is better than nothing. We bought a Heavenly Heat sauna and love it. It is very clean and I feel confident that toxic glues and such have not been used. If you opt to soak your child in a hot bath to sweat than you probably should make sure there aren't heavy metals in the water. We installed a whole-house water softener as well as a chlorine filter. You can also get filters that go on the tub to remove these things. Hope that helps, Beth

Hopefully your water doesn't have heavy metals in it. DDI has a relatively cheap test. > What if your child or yourself doesn't sweat > in a hot bath? If you don't sweat in a hot bath, then you shouldn't be using heat as a means to detoxify. Not sweating when it's hot is dangerous. I've been able to track my progress with chelation by noticing how I've gone from not sweating to a little sweating to a full sweat in high heat.
