The head should not be growing out the top of the helmet. Have this checked out ASAP. What kind of helmet are you using?

Subject: Upward growth?

It seems our son's head is growing up thru the top of the helmet. I had sent some photos of my son to my mother and she called today to ask if his head was getting longer from the helmet. My husband and I had [thought] we noticed it too, but had decided it was our imagination. Now we're not sure. Has anyone else thought this?

Hmm, I can't remember if I have read any other posts regarding your concerns.

If you are concerned that this might be a real issue then contact your

orthotist and specialist and get in to see them ASAP. That will either

dismiss your fears or address them.

Yes, my son Vince's head did this. As far as I can tell it flattened a bit.

The top of his head is also flat and not round like the rest of us. I asked his PT about it and she said most plagio kids are like this.

Hi Belinda,

I am new to this group, and I have been reading all the messages. I

called our neurololgist and asked him if this could happen to my son.

I've searched the archives and come up with messages that say this is

something that should not happen. Can you please tell me what type of

helmet you are using? My son is 2 months old, and I'm already looking

into treatment. Are Plagio Kids really like this??

Janet,

My daughter has been wearing a helmet for about 5 months and has not had a

problem with upward growth. I have never heard that it is common for plagio

kids once they are in treatment and I haven't heard upward growth being a

common side effect of treatment. (At least I haven't heard of it being common

with people in this group)

Hope this helps

Janet, My son is already done with treatment. He developed plagio secondary to tort. If our first ped would have started Vince with PT right away, we could have avoided the helmet. He wore it for 13 months. We used three helmets and they were all paid at 100%. I would say he was mod/severe and we are at 80% correction. We live in Indiana but close enough to Chicago for treatment. We used Ballert Orthopedic. When Vince was DX we had no idea there were other bands/helmets therefore, we went with this company. I don't think our insurance would have authorized and other device.
