Guest guest
Hi Lana, Speaking as someone who has interstitial cystitis, the first thing I would do is get a urinalysis which will tell you if there are red and/or white blood cells present in your urine. If there are red blood cells, it is possible that chelation or something else, is irritating your bladder, but there may not be any infection. If there are white blood cells present, then I would have a urine culture done being sure to collect the specimen by clean catch method. My cystitis will flare with certain foods, supps, and most especially probiotics. Depending on what a urinalysis shows, you may wish to find a copy of the book, YOU DON'T HAVE TO LIVE WITH CYSTITIS. I believe the author's name is Larian Gilespie, MD. who is a female urologist. The book has a great deal of info. on female urinary tract problems and I found the info. very helpful. One thing you may wish to avoid if your problem is cystitis and not an infection, is cranberry juice because it will inflame your bladder tissues even further. Dr. Gilespie? explains the whys of this in her book. Guest guest
I agree with getting checked...and I would hit the cranberry pills and olive leaf extract...and if you have it some virastop... I am not sure why but it sure sounds as if there is a latent bug in there...I can do this when I get dehydrated...so I just take cranberry pills and olive leaf all the time....keeps everything in check...easier that way....lol...much less painful. I take 2000 mg cranberry and 1000 mg olive leaf everyday and when I get a start of a UTI...I double and triple that and add in 3 or 4 virastops also add extra C, that helps to.. just what I do Ronni > I would get checked for a UTI, or just try some unsweetened > cranberry juice (or cranberry capsules) and see if that helps. > > -- > > > > > > > > I was doing DMSA only for a while... then I tried an ALA only round > 8/4, but > > I messed up the timing so I only got a few doses in before I had to > abort. > > The first thing I noticed with the ALA was that not only did my > urine smell > > different, it was pink tinged and urination hurt a little. Guest guest
Hmmmm, interesting... I do have endometriosis... or rather, had endometriosis. Pretty much everything was removed using laproscopy, except for one part which they took a knife to: my bladder. I thought I had made it clear I wanted LASER surgery, but apparently the endometriomas were so nested in my bladder the doc decided he'd skin it. Yes, you heard that right, my bladder was skinned - as far as I'm concerned, totally against my consent (boy was I mad when I woke up), but there's about jack-diddly I can do about it now. Is this going to cause a problem with chelation? (Andy?) The IC site mentions glomerulations - pinpoint bleeding in the bladder wall. I can imagine this would look a lot like endometriomas - do glomerulations ever occur on the outside of the bladder? And there's one thing I've always wondered since finding out about the mercury thing - can mercury leak from the bladder into the abdominal cavity? I know endometriosis and mercury can be linked, but I've never understood why the endometriomas were so concentrated on the outside of my bladder - the only thing I can think of is all the mercury that is hanging out in my bladder waiting to be released. I did notice that the last few rounds with ALA included felt like they were pulling more mercury through the urine - with the DMSA I tend to pull with stool. After suggested a possible UTI, it dawned on me I didn't have nearly as bad a time with intestinal yeast this time around - has anyone here seen urinary infections flare instead? I'd imagine if I was pulling mostly through urine that the mercury would kill off all my good flora down there... Regarding the cranberry juice, I typically use D-Mannose instead which is a special sugar derived from cranberries. Would this cause an issue with IC? I've been craving the D-Mannose the last few weeks, but it is so expensive I didn't want to buy it without a real reason to - it didn't dawn on me the reason I was craving it was that I might have a UTI... I'd love to get a urinalysis, but I have no insurance right now. Any idea how much one costs? I'd just call the lab and ask but the last time I did that they told me a test cost $10 when it really cost $100, so I'm hoping to get a more realistic " estimate " (such as one directly off of someone's bill). Thanks a million! -Lana On 9/5/07, gladioli66 <gladioli66@...> wrote: > > Hi Lana, > Speaking as someone who has interstitial cystitis, the first thing I > would do is get a urinalysis which will tell you if there are red > and/or white blood cells present in your urine. Guest guest
ALA only round was 60 mg, every 3 hours until I botched it. DMSA+ALA was 50mg/60mg, started at every 3h but ended up at every 2-2.5h since that's when I seemed to start getting redistribution symptoms. I had no real side-effects through the round (outside of the pink pee/irritation that went away after the first few doses), but have been thinking of halving the ALA for next time around. I've been good with the DMSA at 50mg for some time now, so I doubt that's what is causing the issue. I did definately feel like I got a better pull using the ALA, so I'm a little bummed that I seem to be having a bit of an issue with it - although having 6 fillings go bad in my mouth, I probably had a lot of mercury in my brain that wasn't being pulled with the DMSA! That of course didn't dawn on me until just now... My only yeast protocol is biotin as needed, but that doesn't seem to be helping the bladder thing so I stopped it. I was just thinking of taking another, so maybe I'll try that. If it doesn't work I'll be picking up some D-Mannose tomorrow. Thanks! -Lana On 9/5/07, Shepard Salzer <_Shepard@...> wrote: > > > What dose and dosing schedule are you using? For me, this means UTI, which I gave myself a few times before I realized I no longer needed yeast control. Are you taking anti-fungals? Try removing them, drink cranberry juice, see if that helps. > feeling like my bladder is about to explode even when it only has a drop in > it is killing me! Yep, this is definitely UTI for me. And GSE caused it once I no longer needed yeast control. Dana

I'm gonna add in D-Mannose tomorrow, it is a special sugar extracted from cranberries. I mentioned in another post I've been craving it all week - I guess its about time I learn that my body really does know what it needs! GSE caused it once I no longer needed yeast control. > Wow, really? Do you know if biotin could cause it if I no longer needed yeast control? I wasn't taking it regularly - only when I felt yeasty. Oh, and is B1 (thiamin) one of the yeast-promoting supplements? I've been using more of that this round - the ALA seems to deplete me of it pretty rapidly. -Lana
Guest guest
If you know how to use homeopathics, cantharis is the universal remedy for uti, and bladder issues. You can buy it direct at a healthfood store or use a naturopath. It will cost eight dollars.
Guest guest
Hi Lana, Yikes. Your surgical experience sounds horrible. You may have something else going on besides infection or cystitis. Regarding the urinalyis: One of the local independent labs here in Ohio allows patients to request labwork themselves if it is not being run through your insurance. You must pay up front, but they give you a discounted rate because they don't have to deal with insurance company. They quote prices up front as well. Try looking in your local phone book yellow pages for a lab not connected to a hospital and see what you find. To be honest, I found only one lab who offers this service and at a discounted rate. Guest guest
I woke up this morning with full on bladder, ureter and one sided kidney pain, which is *exactly* what happened last time when I had a UTI. I grabbed the D-Mannose this morning when the HFS opened and I'm once again impressed at how well it works - I'm taking 2 scoops every 2 hours or so (in addition to a scoop or two dissolved in my water) and as long as I remember to take it on time I have very little pain and the frequency of my urination reduces significantly (although not completely). Last time it took me about half a container to be back to normal, so I'm hoping I'll get similar results this time. Thanks everyone for your suggestions, it would never have dawned on me that I was in the early stages of developing a UTI. I now know better for next time - I'll probably take D-Mannose alongside the rounds that feel like they're pulling through the urine. -Lana

My son, at first, craved things that made him spacy. After several years of biomedical, he started avoiding the spacy things and he craved the things his body needed. > Wow, really? Do you know if biotin could cause it if I no longer needed > yeast control? I wasn't taking it regularly - only when I felt yeasty. All I can really comment is that once I no longer needed biotin, taking it gave me a headache. Same with other yeast remedies. > Oh, and is B1 (thiamin) one of the yeast-promoting supplements? Not sure. Most Bs [except biotin] tended to increase yeast at my house, but I don't remember B1 specifically. Dana
