Guest guest
My ped did send me for the initial xray for cranio but as far as positional, he thought the band was cruel. I always loved my pediatricians practice and there are several young peds there who may not have been well educated on plagiocephaly. Because I have three kids, I am always there (lol) - so as soon as Max got his band, I printed a nice picture of him wearing it and sent it in. Well, at my next visit...there it was, hanging in the front office and my pediatrician said...it doesn't look as uncomfortable as I thought it would. He has since educated himself and has become a wonderful support system for me. Amy (Max's mom)
Guest guest
Hi! This has been on my mind since Sophie was banded on 2/14: How does one go about informing their ped that your child has been banded, when they were unsupportive of the plagio? We have our 9 month checkup at the end of the month and I have had bouts of anxiety attacks (not really!) about how my ped is going to react when we show up with Sophie sportin' her band. Would it have been proper etiquette for me to have made the phone call when we first got it? As it turns out we did not use the neuro she referred us to for the mere fact that when I called the office there, nobody in the office had a clue what I was talking about when I mentioned plagio and DOC band. When she did finally give in with the referral, she said it wouldn't hurt to talk to someone else and then " we " could decide what to do from there. I felt so belittled--almost like we weren't speaking about MY child. I guess it is just my sheepish demeanor that makes me even care what she thinks. Wow, I'm over it now, thanks for listening! Still curious to know how you all handled the situation. (Sophie and Hanna's mom) Stamford, CT
Guest guest
Hi , I was in a similar situation as you write about. My ped did not recommend the DOC Band. I got the name of a cranial facial doc from a mom friend of mine who's son has plagio also. This doc recommended the band for my son. I went back to my ped to tell him this, and to get another opinion from him (why, I don't know since I knew his opinion already.) He again said he didn't really see the need for treatment, but seemed open minded a bit and referred us to a pediatric neurosurgeon. We did not use his referral, but went to a different ped neuro (a friend of someone my husband knows). This doc said 's head would probably round out on its own. Long story short, my husband and I banded anyway (on 2/23). Today was 's 9 month check up. I didn't really think twice about showing up with in his band. I was very straight forward with my ped about everything (he even knew we had seen a different neurosurgeon because the one we saw sent my ped a letter saying that he was not recommending banding at this time.) My ped seemed fine with it all, and I didn't feel like there was any tension or he was acting wierd because I totally went against what he said (and didn't even use his referral neuro doc.) Guest guest
: I'm in Canada, so it may be different there. When Hanna saw the neurosurgeon/craniofacial plastic surgeon, a report was sent out to our ped. so that he would know what was going on. I didn't know they did this, but our Dr. had us called in to his office to discuss everything, in case we had any further questions. Your doctor may very well know already. Guest guest
I tell you, the Big Guy upstairs must really love me! Matt has been such a blessing and is probably one of the easiest kids to have so far! My wife knows someone that works for CT down in Atlanta and that is how we heard of plagio. My wife printed off a whole bunch of stuff off the CT site. We called the ped (I met her before even knowing she was a ped and before Matt was even born) and told her about this. We gave her the website URL and the phone #'s of CT in Atlanta and the one that was just opening up in Cleveland. She called them and looked up plagio online prior to our meeting her. She recognized the plagio as soon as she took a closer look at Matt's head. She has a good friend whose daughter had plagio. They never heard of plagio so they never got banded. The only problem with their daughter is cosmetic, but I guess it's pretty bad (no facial asymmetry, just the flat areas). So, the ped is very interested in finding out more about the DOC Band and how Matt's doing. When she saw Matt, she talked to us about plagio, what she learned, what else we knew, what she talked about to CT and wrote out the script as we talked. She is so interested, we are going to see her tomorrow after hours so she can see what's going on, what the band is like and how it's working without us having to pay for a visit! We are incredibly lucky! Not all ped's out there will drag their feet like some! Keep your chins up! Chris Matt's Dad
