Guest guest
Kerry, DO NOT WORRY!! You have a locally made helmet just like we have and it sounds very similar. Ours covers 's entire head and has holes all over. It is clear plastic instead of white, but that is because our orthotist likes it better that way. As far as the info you were given about not applying pressure that is exactly correct with helmet therapy. We are using the exact same type of therapy and we have had good luck. How old is your baby? This type of therapy works better for younger babies, but started at 9 months and we have seen good improvement. Many people in this group are using banding therapy which is more dynamic. The band actually applies pressure in certain spots. It sounds like you were given good information. If you go to the plagio group homepage you will see a picture of my daughter in her helmet and I think you will see that it is quite similar. I hope this helps and feel free to email me privately if you wish. (marcisch@...) Marci (Mom to ) Oklahoma
Guest guest
Aiden's helmet looks so different from the ones I've seen here in photos. It's fairly thin, and looks like a " whiffle " ball (sp?) with holes all over. I asked orthotics why they looked so different from the helmets and bands I've seen, and he said their plagiocephaly hemet therapy does not use pressue to " mold " the head into a rounder shape like most programs. He said they fit the helmet so that as the head grows the only place for growth is the open spots created inside the helmet. Does this sound like I have correct information? Is anybody on this type of " program " ?? Kerry- Mom to Aiden & Quintin
Guest guest
Do you know what type he has? I know there are alot of different ones. I'm familiar with the STAR Band and the DOC Band. My son had both. He is now in his second DOC Band and due to graduate in May or June. There are some pictures of different types of helmets and bands under files. I know the DOC Band has been incredible. My sons head is so much better. His ears are finally almost symetrical again. There is still some bossing on the right forehead and his jaw is still off. The DOC band does use the pressure. It does not hurt the babies though. > Aiden's helmet looks so different from the ones I've seen here in > photos. Guest guest
THANK YOU! Our's IS a locally made helmet and I'm relieved to know somebody else has used one with success. Aiden is 14 months old, but is 10 months old corrected age because he was born at 24 weeks gestation. Plus, he is a triplet, so he was really small at birth. He still has a LOT of growing to do, so the doctors think him being equal to 10 months old now is okay and therapy will still help. Thank you again! I am going to check out 's photo!!
