Hi everyone, I am trying to get a list for myself of the babies that have the elongated head shape. I was just wondering so I can compare pics etc. If you dont mind letting me know that would be great. Maybe we could form a list of the different head shapes and the members (or babies) with that type for a quick reference. I don't know it that is done or if it is even possible. Thanks

has the elongated head shape. He also has ridging

(non-synostosic) on his coronal sutures and his metopic suture from the

fontanelle down to past the hair line (it is a wedge shaped ridge). The

ridging is getting more and more pronounced and the metopic suture

ridging is going further into the forehead. He has bifrontal bossing.

Deformation is equivalent on each side so there is no observable

assymetry.

's plastic surgeon from his cleft lip surgery pointed out his

head shape, tested for craniosynostosis and ordered the helmet. He

doesn't like to use the scaphiocephalic term and just regards it as

deformational plagiocephaly where the head is too long/narrow. I gather

that this is because there are peculiarlities to the head shapes

depending on whether it is an internal force (craniosynostosis) or

external force (plagiocephaly).

I will take photos of and my son 's head profiles.

had a similar head shape as a baby. I always wondered why his

head was so wide behind the ears. It seems that his forehead/face have

remained narrow (about 10cm) and his biparietal diameter (width behind

ears) is wider (about 15cm).

The orthopaedist who cast 's helmet didn't know how much it would

help as although it is long/narrow it is not assymetrical. I will be

happy if he can lay down without flattening his head further (the area

from his ears to his forehead on each side) and give his head a chance

to grow back out in those areas.

I feel that I was put in the position of whether or not to get a helmet

as it may or may not rectify itself and although it is narrow it is

symetrical. Am I putting him through something unneccessary? I guess

that if I don't and it doesn't rectify itself than it will be my fault

for not doing it, and I will have to live with that.

Joann,

Sam does not have assementary either, he really had a 'bump' in the

back because his went more to a point from the ears back. They were

not sure how a band would help with his shape either. We have gotten

some growth in width so we will be happy with whatever we get.

Thanks for answering.
