Guest guest
Stasia, Welcome to the group - you have come to the right place. The best way to find out what kind of device you will receive is to call your orthotist and ask. You will probably get a DOCband, STARband or a locally made helmet. If you look in the files seciton of the plagio homepage you will see a file folder regarding types of treatments. It might be helpful to you to browse through this file and look at some of the different types of devices that are made. There are variations of almost everything! As far as the casting process, we have all been there and we can sure sympathize. I guess it must be the standard procedure because everyone here has been through the same experience. We had a 3-D CT scan and our daughter was sedated. We had the appointment for EARLY in the morning (we had to be there around 6 AM) since wasn't allowed to eat anything for 8 hours prior to the scan. When we got there they gave us a large syringe full of an orange liquid that we gave her. She cried and fussed as she felt more and more tired - she was trying to fight off the feeling of going to sleep. She was fast asleep in about 20-30 minutes. We carried her into the room where the scan was to take place and then had to leave and wait outside. They brought her to the recovery area and administered oxygen. The oxygen speeds up the " waking up " process. She was doing great and almost awake withing about 20 mintues when the tech came in and said they had missed something on the orders and were going to have to take her back in for one more scan!!! They tried to take her in right away hoping that she was still asleep enough, but she wasn't. They couldn't give her more of the same anasthesia (sp?) so they came in and gave her a shot of something else. She was out in minutes after that!!!! They took her back in and finished the job. When she came back out it took much longer to " wake " her up. They explained that that was because the shot was a little more powerful. She did come out of it after about a half an hour and was just fine. She slept away the majority of the morning - waking a couple of times only briefly. By mid-afternoon she was back to her normal self. The process was kind of scary, but I had my Mom and my husband with me and that made all the difference in the world. It would have been better if they had not had to sedate her TWICE, but at least we got all the information we needed in one visit. I wasn't about to volunteer to come back and finish another day - once is enough. I sure am glad that you found us. You should get some great feedback to your post. There are a lot of us here who had scans and/or x-rays. Marci (Mom to ) Oklahoma
