Unfortunatly, it is TAX TIME:

For everyone out there, here is the link to the IRS Medical and Dental deduction webpage:

http://www.irs.gov/prod/forms_pubs/pubs/p502toc.htm

PLEASE CHECK IT OUT! OUR FEDERAL REFUND WAS INCREASED BY THOUSAND(S) $$$ JUST FOR FINDING WHAT CAN BE DEDUCTED!

ALL the actual travel expenses (airfare, rental car, tolls, actual driving expenses or mileage flat rate) and some portions of hotel and meals are deductible if travelling for prescribed medical treatments.

So are all unreimbursed/uncovered medical expenses (like that 20% our insurance didn't cover of the DOC band!)

The big catch is the portion OVER 7.5% of your gross adjusted income can be deducted .....but all the stuff included (that you didn't realize - like your Dr. ofc. copays, deductibles...) really does add up.... and any medical expenses PAID in 2000 regardless of when incurred are also included! (We still had parts of our maternity stay and 's ear surgery to pay in 2000, even though they were from 1999, that we were able to add!) And we made sure we had a receipt for everything, check # for payments, Visa statements....etc...(actual rental car, toll booth & rental car receipts), insurance EOB forms stating what they paid (or reimbursed) and everything like that to prove in case of an audit. If we didn't have the proof we paid it (couldn't find the bill/check #) we did not use it! You also must file the 1040 long form, but it is definatly worth the effort or getting an accountant! (we had a 3" stack of receipts!)

I AM NOT AN ACCOUNTANT - WE GAVE A SPREADSHEET OF ALL OUR PROVEABLE EXPENSES TO AN ACCOUNTANT WHO DID OUR TAXES.... CHECK IT OUT AND SEE IF IT WILL HELP YOU!

There's nothing to lose but a few minutes of your time if you don't qualify....but much to gain if you do....especially if you travel for treatment and/or your insurance refuses to pay for the band/helmet/physical therapy/eye exams/dental exams......etc.....

I hope this helps many of us have a better tax day!

I put the link in the BOOKMARKS section (used to be links section).

I will work on making a document to put in the files section....the

last hope when insurance doesn't pay...at least it may be tax-

deducted in some cases!
