Guest guest
Hello, I'm new to the group and have a few questions. I live in Northern Minnesota and my son has not been diagnosed yet. A local doctor noticed that 's head was a little asymetrical and told me he had read an article on the helmet for correction, but did know much more than that. The next week I was scheduled for an appointment with 's regular Dr. and when I mentioned it to him his reply was, " don't worry about it, I have seen lots of babies with this and we have never done anything about it and I don't think that helmet would work very well anyway. " But he would refer me to a pediatrician if I wanted. So I did some searching on the internet and learned a lot. So next week we will have to travel 3 1/2 hrs. to Fargo, ND to see the pediatrician. I'm hoping she has some experience with Plagiocephaly. But if she doesn't what is my next step? I'm a little confused on what to do. Is it being overly protective of my child to want this to be corrected? It's not as extreme as some photos I have seen of other children, but I definitly notice it. It sounds like this is a common thing, but I had never even heard of it. If it is not corrected will there be other problems when he gets older? The closest place for us to go will be Gillette's Childrens Hospital in St. which is a 6 1/2 hr. drive. And from what I understand this will be a once a week visit type thing?? What is the average time period that they wear the helmet? is already 9 months old, this is another dilima. I'm thinking I need to get this started now if we are going to do it! Any answers would be greatly appreciated! Thank you, Nikki Roseau, MN
