Guest guest
Hi - hope I can shed some light. From my understanding, the band actively applies pressure to reshape the head and prevents growth in the unwanted areas while allowing growth of the brain to rehape the skull in the desired areas. The helmet has the desired shape of the head and the child " grows into it " . The band is much better for an older child with plagio. The helmet seems to work for youngest infants. Luckily I found out that the helmet doesn't even work after 12 months of age. Anyway, she sent me a document comparing/contrasting the helmet and the DOC band by email. Needless to say, it was very helpful and informative. I will email it to you(hopefully I still have it saved). If anyone else needs it just email me directly or call Debbie. Guest guest
Hi again, thanks for all the replies Would 5 to 6 months be considered a younger infant still regarding the effectiveness of helmet treatment? There's just so many questions... and literally it seems so little time. Also by U of M, I meant Children's Hospital at the University of Michigan. Sorry, we are just so used to UofM around here that it rolled right off without thinking. Thanks again, > > HI to all, > > > > I am very sorry for the horrible things happening to some of the > > members. My husband and I can't seem to find anything on the web to > help us make the decision. > > Thank you, > , and Connor , My son, Conor (great name, no matter how you spell it!), wears a helmet made by the orthotics lab at a local hospital. The orthotist told me it works by restraining growth in some areas and allowing growth in others. His description of how it works (and I've asked him a million questions) sounds to me like the descriptions offered by the band companies. We recently saw a specialist who normally writes prescriptions for Star bands and he didn't seem to think that we had an inferior product. Good luck to you, and welcome to this e-group! , Conor's mom, Central PA
