We placed him on Risperdal, a very low dose, and today he is so much better where aggression is concerned. My DS will clench his teeth, make a fist, then shake all over when he is frustrated. We have used that " sign " to help teach him self-calming methods. Like counting to 10 while taking deep breathes. Now he can do it on his own. He still has " bad " days, but nothing like before. Does he has a psychiatrist? If sho, have him/her start your ds on a very low dose, like .25mg. Wait about a month & see if you don't notice a difference in his behavior. Some drs want to give these children too much medicine, when in fact, less works much better. Does your ds have sensory issues? Such as doesn't like but certain foods because of the textures, doesn't like certain clothes because of the feel, doesn't like loud noises (except the ones he makes), etc. If so, the try to address those issues, because if he has sensory issues & they are not address, this will frustrate him more! Hope I've been of some help. I have two children both with Asperger's ds is 6 & dd is 5. We have had them in early intervention since they were about 18 months. The First Steps program is great at helping children from birth to 3 years old, then unfortunately you have to deal with the schools. Both of my children have made so much progress over the last couple of years, that many people don't even know that they have Asperger's! I believe in early intervention, the earlier, the better for the child! Well, I've rambled enough. Have a great day. It seems to me that with children with AS, life is a roll coaster. One minute they are fine, the next they are screaming to the top of their lungs!
