Guest guest
Wow.Sounds like a great place for him. *** It's so angering........knowing that these people that are "professionals" and "trained" to deal with kids can be so fricken clueless, rude and ignorant. Ugh. Robin Elgamal <cindyelgamal@...> wrote: AAARRRGGGGHHHHH!! I can feel myself getting mad all over again just reading these posts. My 17 year old Aspie is in private school this year. The final straw with the public school system was at the end of last year during an ARD to discuss some problems he was having the assistant principal said, “I am going to meet with each of his teachers to make sure they are following his IEP.” For the love of Pete, this was two weeks before the end of school! I was like, “He has had an IEP in place all year long and you are just now going to make sure his teachers are following it!” On a happier note, he is doing wonderfully at the private school. It is designed for kids with Asperger’s, ADHD, and learning disabilities. Very small classes – the most students in any of his classes is 6. The staff is trained in autism and all exhibit dedication to the students. I volunteer there one day a week and really like the way they interact with students and also how they handle issues. And, it is not HIS fault that no one is giving him the work and make up tests. Ruthie ( ) Re: Teacher Conferences Is too old for the behavior book? We stopped doing that in middle school. But I do want something, so we might have to start again. The theater teacher suggested a daily progress report, so it is about the same thing. I went to look in 's planner last night because I asked the teachers to make sure that her homework is written down, and she doesn't have her planner! She took a boy's planner by mistake. She said he probably has hers. I don't know when that happened - she just told me over a week ago! So no one is making sure she is writing her homework down. I have to review her IEP again. That was always in there - to make sure the homework is written down. This gets so annoying and frustrating. But...she did do her homework last night! She actually told me that she had it! That is progress! I received the paper yesterday from the office about the incident last Friday. The homeroom teacher wrote that she called him a "Friggin' Fool". She was to get one day of suspension. I guess that was why they called me to take her home. I'm going to show the note to the psychiatrist when we go back next month. Originally, the VP told me that she told him FU. But that's not what the paper says. You can ask that they try a 6-week trial and follow up on the outcome. It wouldn't hurt to have the drama teacher at the meeting to explain what has been going on in the classroom. Have the information to say why she is having the difficulties she is having (ex. unstructured time) and how it relates to the disability. Also, a daily communication log would document the difficulties. You may want to begin saving emails and logging in any phone conversations you have regarding the issue.
