Guest guest
Hi and WELCOME!! glad you are de-lurking! My now 19 yo twins didn't sleep through the night until they were 2 yo. One had colic very bad and when I would Finally get him to sleep his brother would wake. They still have problems sleeping when they are going to school and they sleep terrible hours now that they are waiting to start college in the fall...nights and days completely mixed up.. which is the way they prefer it. I understand the crying with relief, sadness, lost dreams etc.. soon you will realize that our kids are completely unique, wired totally different..not disabled so much as differently 'abled'... welcome again, Toni ( ) Hi all, de-lurking , and quick question Hi, from UK here, I'm single mummy to just one child, , 5yo with tentative diagnosis of Aspergers - we saw the Paediatrician today again, and she is finally saying that she's working towards a formal diagnosis and it's time to get things moving to get him some help. I feel soooooooooo relieved! Just knowing that someone is putting into words what I've known for years... I just keep crying with the relief, the sadness, the everything!Quick question too... how many of you had real sleep problems with your AS kids when they were babies? still has very disturbed sleep, but when he was a baby he had dreadful trouble sleeping - it wasn't until he was a year old and I did a week of dreadful controlled cryng that he finally stayed quiet through the night - up till then, he was waking every hour.*hugs*<><
Guest guest
You know, Robin, I forgot about it until you mentioned it but Tyler went thru a phase (actually, a very long phase) of sleeping on the couch. Seemed to be able to go to sleep and stay asleep better there. That was when we had a two-story house and his bedroom was up and ours down. Then when I divorced we moved to a single story and he started sleeping in his own room. He now lives with his dad in a single story also and sleeps in his room. He'd even be crying that he couldn't get to sleep. We started seeing that the less sleep he got,,,,,,,,,the better he did the next day, actually. Odd. He DID do better in our bed. Guest guest
So there's hope, huh? Or,,,,,Maybe if he's ever out on his own, he won't be looking for a place with "bedrooms" at the top of his list......ha ha. <cindyelgamal@...> wrote: You know, Robin, I forgot about it until you mentioned it but Tyler went thru a phase (actually, a very long phase) of sleeping on the couch. Guest guest
Robin, I can't believe every time you post anything about your son, you described my son as well. My son would also love to sleep with me. I can't sleep with him, because he pulls my hair. but for the days, that he can't sleep, he will ask if he can sleep on the couch. If I tell him he has to sleep in his bed, he will be up all night, and so will I. On those nights that he can't sleep, and I give in and let him sleep on the couch, it seems like 'that's his best sleep'. I don't understand why, it just is. Guest guest
Someone one asked if maybe he "feels" better on the couch because it's more "enclosed". He can snuggle and arrange the pillows, etc. Ya know,,,,,I thought about it, and I think it definitely makes sense. Our couch is really deep and has squishy cushions that you lay back on. So,,,,,he usually gets rid of them...ha ha.......and has this huge area that he rearranges littler pillows on. The big cushion he removes,,,he puts on the floor almost like a "fence" at the adge of the couch. Who knows..........I'm just glad he's sleeping....(and me,too).....ha ha. *** It IS amazing how much some of our kids resemble eachother. I'm SOOOOO grateful for that,,,,,,,,,cause, honestly,,,,,when I first joined this group, I not only thought I was crazy,,,,,,but feared my son was. Have a super day, woman. Guest guest
Welcome :-) I'm a part-time mother of an NT daughter (11) and a probably AS son (14) located in Trondheim, Norway. We're just now going through evaluation through the regional resource center. Although my son doesn't have a diagnosis, I see very many things with him that I can relate to when reading about the issues with AS both here and other places. My son slept very little as a baby. I think that before he was 2,5 he slept through the night less than 10 times. Then there was a sudden change (just before his sister was born), and he started to sleep through the night on a regular basis. After that he hasn't had any serious sleep problems (unil now), but has needed relatively little sleep, and sometimes have trouble getting to sleep in the evening. After New Year's he had a week almost without sleep at all, so we finally saw the doctor. He said it was " belated sleep phase " (direct translation from Norwegian ;-). He said he had to go to bed to the same time every night and get up to the same time in the morning (also in the weekends). Since then it has improved, and now I think he sleeps most of the night again. We never found any reason for his sleep problems as a baby/small child. We did see the doctor, and also got some medication (Vallergan), but we didn't like it because he got a " hangover " the next day. He went to sleep in the evening, but woke up several times during the night and very early in the morning - and didn't want to stay in his bed. But times change - now he can sleep half the day if he's allowed to :-) Take care, Rannveig/.
Guest guest
I've been divorced since was 9 months old. Up until last year, she has always wanted to sleep with me. I finally got her to stop in 8th grade. I told her she wouldn't want the kids at school to know that she still slept with her mom. That solved that problem. Guest guest
In re-reading my post it sounds like Tyler sleeps in his dad’s room. That is not the case – he sleeps in his own room. But, something he has done for years is sleep in his clothes – it drives me nuts but he refuses to sleep any other way. He usually takes off his shirt but sleeps in his jeans and socks. He also doesn’t get “in” the bed – he sleeps on top of the bedspread or comforter. I don’t want him doing that here so I fold the comforter down but he sleeps on top of the sheets. He also carries his own “blanket” with him wherever he goes. From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of debmetsfan@...
