Yes, Rose. No need for not having the books at home; have the school provide a copy for you to keep at home that you return at the end of the year, so there is never the 'excuse' of did not have the book. Actually, while it is 'excuse' it is not!! often gets sooooo angry with himself because he did not really mean to forget (he has diagnosed processing problems, dyslexia (for reading deficits), dysnomia, etc...). Anyway, I WOULD ask for that.

Do you have a way to go on line and check his work / see what is missing? We do; it is called parent portal. We know what the assignment is (check one way to see what work he has that he is supposed to be doing) and another way to check to see if he did it, grade, etc. We can check it DAILY, and keep up with him....or, see how he is deteriorating due to the school NOT meeting his needs (right now, they have a plan in place and do none of it or do parts of it like 2 out of 30 days so far----that is why we have a lawyer now.....). JUST FRUSTRATING!!! If we were rich, and did not have to make the school PAY for it, we would have pulled him already! We are getting SOOOOOO sick of all the time we have to spend (and waste if you will) doing things we should not HAVE to be doing!!!! They should just be doing their jobs.

( ) Sharing what I'm doing this school year with: homework/stay home papers

Hello,This is what I'm doing for this year to keep track of my son's educational needs. (for my records). I bought 10 folders/with pockets (cheap ones, 10 cents each). One for each school month, - Sept through June 2007/2008.All of my sons: leave at home work - I keep in the pocket on the left side. All of my sons test: I leave on the pocket on the right side.this was all in his stay home folder for 'only' September. *everything for this month was saved*. As soon as my son has a homework assignment that he doesn't understand, or he didn't take home the work that was needed,(forgot) I immediately typed a letter explaining my concerns and sent that letter in. A copy placed in his September/stay home folder. (I was just told I should c/c it to the CSE Chairperson and principal). That will start next month. I do this 'follow up letter' to explain why he came home with a note on top of his papers stating, 'incomplete work' (because he didn't take home assignment books needed or worksheets)to complete his work. My son didn't understand what was needed. *a copy of that letter was placed in his September/stay home folder. A copy of any school letters was also placed in there.each folder for each month also helps if I need to explain any concerns at the CSE or team meetings. This also helps for reference for my son if he needs to go back and review any past school work for test reviews or reports. ALSO, the right side/test helps me keep track each month of his test marks. any regression? any progress? also areas he needs help/tutoring with. I also see what my son understands or not.month by month.I have 'Octobers' stay home folder ready for Octobers school work.*after reading this, is there anything that you all are doing, or do different, that I didn't mention, that I can add, that will help us for this school year? thank youRose

I am 'jealous' you can get your kids to be organized!! While our kids are obsessive compulsive (supposedly in their 'dx'), they 'obsess' about things that do not help!!! (like over indulge in themselves, their interests; just not cleaning and being organized!! I am organized because I have ADHD and HATE the disorganization, so I started a 'calendar' , and live by it; put my keys in same place every single time, etc. IT IS A CHOICE as an adult, now. If I take a 'day off' from something, I have to force myself to get it done (laundry, for example).....otherwise, my house can become chaotic (not just due to our children and their behaviors!!!) in a matter of 24 hours!! I just prefer to not have that happen very often now. It is a lot of work, but a choice, now.

OH Ruthie, Your last paragraph is us...It takes them sooooo long to see a concern that I have been telling them. Mean while, my son looses out until this finally see it. If I had money, I would pull my son out in a second and hire an autism specialist.. Tomorrow, Monday, we go for a CSE meeting. (I tabled the first one) due to a disagreement. they decided to change my son's classification. His doctor wrote them a nice report/eval. if they don't change it back to autism. I will experience my first hearing. Yes, we have a school site to check my son's information. If they kept it updated, it would be awesome. Sooooo, I'll do my own paper work. He does have one book that he keeps home. He gets confused on what to do like: the homework said:, study your vocabulary words, He said I know what the

word 'vocabulary' means. I said you have a list. he didn't know anything about it. (just the meaning of the word "vocabulary". I had to search through his books to find it. when I showed it to him, I could see his expression like he just remembered & understood. Its like that with everything. Ugh!!! when do you go back to school/meeting with your lawyer? wishing you the best with that!! RoseRUTHIE BRYAN DOLEZAL <DOLEZAL123@...> wrote: Yes, Rose. Ruthie I did this. because my son is NOT organized at all. complete opposite. He will lose a $100.00 bill if you gave it to him. He doesn't remember anything to bring home for homework, He has a team of teachers there to remind him every day what to take home with a written reminder chart. I am also not organized, but it doesn't effect me like it does him. I started these 'stay at home' folders so I can see/ keep tract of everything for this whole school year. Thanks, Rose.

and I met the lawyer Wednesday, and he took our case (means we need one--sad, but true)....And, we have a meeting with the school for 60 minutes only (they have said it will be 60 minutes SHARP) on Tuesday. Our lawyer and son's tutor will be there with us, too. And, the school principal called us Friday to ask us if the lawyer is representing us, etc.; so ridiculous; he got a letter Friday (said he got it too) which said all that; like, they think we will change our minds now?? They are not doing their jobs or being legal, so this has come to this; our son doesn't want to go to school tomorrow (this should not have anything to do with it, although, who knows---we have asked his input---like IEP and other stuff says to). He says it is because he just does not want to go to school; and I think it is because we had the end of the first 6 weeks of school Friday, and he is behind since we have not been 'involved' with making sure he gets work done (we were advised to let him go otherwise the school will never do what they are supposed to--hardest things I have ever done but I have not been 'keeping up on things' with his work; he has gone from 100 percents to 50 percents since we stopped; school says they are working with him, and he is not behind (but parent portal tells you something else--a different story). Anyway, it is a mess that we hope we start fixing Tuesday (provided they do not cancel--our lawyer thinks they might)....We'll keep you posted; good luck tomorrow and your meeting, Rose. You are describing my kiddos!! I do have folders and organizers for both boys; our 6 year old is excellent and responsible; our 13 year old cannot even get a letter home to us; or, if it gets here, he forgets to give it to us; school is supposed to call or email and tell us; they do, when it does not come back! It is frustrating!! And, our kiddos are like others on here---throw coins, 20's, whatever, like it is trash or paper; NO VALUE; and that is how they treat most of their things too, which is ever so frustrating. Ruthie

Ruthie, At your next CSE meeting, Tell the group you have a tape recorder and would like to tape the meeting for your personal records. This will be your minutes. A tape recorder is legal as long as they know its on!!! ( later at your convenience, you can type it out and have your minutes). HA!!! Make sure you have a good tape recorder, and extra tapes. Also, a tape recorder is a legal document and could be used in court, as long as you get a licensed stenographer to type it out). I'm not sure if anyone can type it out, as long as it is something that can be read. like on a letter.
