Guest guest
Good morning, gang! Anyone have information on where to go to get free curriculum programming for the homeschoolers? And, preferably 8th grade complete curriculum / programming that is working for your Asperger's kiddos especially? We are going to open-enroll out of our district, and in to one with a homeschooling programming through the school (which ROCKS!!!). However, after accepting us and everything, and contacting the secretary to see if we could open enroll and yes we could, the superintendent called and told the programming of homeschooling director they are NOT taking any more open enrollments for this year. SO, we are going to have to do it ourselves this year (the open enrolled school for NEXT YEAR is going to help us as much as possible / she is also a huge advocate, so that will help) but I still want my support group's help with ideas on the curriculum thing. We have been told that we should not have to spend more than $100, and most home-school for totally free (curriculum speaking); obviously, NOT ON GOOGLE!! Or ! So, I am asking for any help you can provide in suggestions as we enter a very new world to us! We are SCARED but excited. IS NOT going back though; today is his last day of 'public school' in the sense our quarter ends TODAY, so we are doing all the work through today, handing it in, and he will NOT be going back (last day was TUESDAY). We are having the tutors help finish it up; he has worked 7-10 hour days at home all week (I AM NOT KIDDING YOU!!!!!! HE IS HAPPY, calm, it is just amazing; everyone working with him is just shocked, ESPECIALLY US!!!!!!! We cannot believe he is doing all the work without ANY complaints AT ALL!!!! Apparently it was totally the environment and school? He is being a perfectionist about the work, too). He will have everything caught up, etc., and handed in by days end!!! COME MONDAY, we are on our own, and hope to have everything in place to start learning that day! (or will take a day or two off until we get curriculum and in place---since he has done about 3 weeks worth of work I think this week at home!!!!).... Guest guest
Homeschooling through the district sounds like virtual schooling. It's public school, their material,,,,computers and all,,,,,,freee,,,,,,,but done at home. Teacher guides,,,everthing. You get a schedule that YOU make. It's awesome. Only thing is,,,,,you have to enroll during a 2 week time period in Feb during the "school choice" times. I believe this is the same nation-wide. So,,,,if you applied in "Feb",,,,,you'd start for the 2008-/9 school year. Anyway,,,,,,,,,,that's what I thouht you meant when you wrote...."Open enroll"..........and then said something about "homeschooling program through the school". My goof. Oh well, huh? Whatever gets it done and works. GOOD LUCK!!!!! RobinRUTHIE BRYAN DOLEZAL <DOLEZAL123@...> wrote: Guess I am not sure your questioning? Guest guest
No, we do not have that here to my knowledge. When we can open enroll, we will have a school with the homeschooling program and a teacher you see monthly, plus support, enrichment classes, etc. We can also go on field trips, to the Y and other stuff. We do the curriculum on our own, actually, and they will guide us on a path towards curriculum, but we are NOT able to have our school's assignments, etc. So, we are on our own here; it is NOT virtual school; my understanding is that it is actually a whole lot less work, really easier for the kids, and a complete rounded program. So, we do not have what you are talking about here. Sounds 'ideal' perhaps, but that is not what we have to my knowledge. We are basically on our own here; the school with a homeschooling program just has support, which our current school does not have; in fact, they want to do NOTHING to work with us! So, not sure if that helps or not. Ruthie Re: ( ) Homeschooling questions So,,,,come Feb when you can do the "school choice" thing,,,,,,,you'll enroll for a virtual school? Also,,,,,,Good luck!!!!!!! Guest guest
You know what, though? Being on your own and teaching him your way PLUS having some help monthly and support is wonderful!!!!!! Guest guest
Ruthie, there's a mailing list called " aut-2b-home " for people homeschooling autistic kids - you can get more info here: http://home.earthlink.net/~tammyglaser798/authome.html They would be a good place to ask about resources. Guest guest
My friend did this with her son with ds last year. He just had to be attending school for 1/4 of the day, which for them consisted of 2 periods in the hs day. They had a special bus that came at picked him up since his classes started 2 hours after the reg school and ended an hour earlier, or something like that. He got his speech therapy during the time he was at school.
