Hi Everyone,

I know I haven't been posting a lot. is setted in and we're just waiting until the end of April when her Starband will come off (for good hopefully!) Anyway, as I wrote before, is 9 months old (today!) and still cannot sit by herself. She does it for a little, but I have to be right there because she eventually falls over. Early Intervention came out for the intake and the therapists are coming on the 14th. I was just wondering how their physical therapy differs from private pt. We already started with private pt before we found out about EI and decided to continue at least until EI's therapy starts. Are they as qualified? I would love any input from those who are dealing with EI or have dealt with it in the past. It seems so much more convenient (and cheaper!) Thanks again!

Laurie,

We didn't use EI for PT, because Lexi didn't qualify, but we used EI

for speech therapy for our oldest daughter Cheyenne. We were using a

private speech therapist, but it was to traumatizing for Cheyenne to

be out of the home doing therapy. As soon as we would get there she

wouldn't utter a word, nor could she coaxed into speaking.

We started EI services and I have to say the speech therapist was 100

times better then the private therapist. The EI therapist solely

dealt with young children (under 3 years of age) and it made a WORLD

of difference.

Although I know that speech therapy and PT are totally different, if

our experience with speech is any reflection of what the PT program

is like, you will be very happy with them.

Sincerely,

Jaya Dong

PS, my i is 8 months old and she is also not sitting up. I am

totally confused with her.......she crawls, stands and cruises but

she cannot sit by herself for any length of time, nor can she get

into a sitting position without standing first. I plan to have EI re-

evaluate her very soon.

Laurie - We had a choice of EI or private and I actually liked our EI person better. Just my choice, both seemed as qualified in my opinion. I also liked having them come to our home. Really saved me from running to another appointment and I think it really helps the child being in their own environment. We also qualified for teacher services and did both for about three months until the torticollis was resolved. I would just go with who you are more comfortable with but also check out your insurance policy. Some really have problems getting pt sessions approved for any length of time so EI is a life saver for many. Cost is based on your income/expenses. Good luck.

Ilene,

You should check with Early Intervention about continuing services until the

school district program starts. After my son turned three last June, he

continued with his EI SLP until September. Then, the Board of Ed took over.

Good luck!
