Sometimes I think there is too much tendency to say "Kids are cruel." It happens, but so far in my experience it hasn't happened the majority of the time. I guess when it DOES happen it's just so painful for the people involved that it's hard to put it into perspective. In PE yesterday the kids were supposed to run three laps around the track. All the really atheletic kids were done in no time. Then there were the kids who cheated and cut across the track. followed the rules to the letter and kept on going even though he was last and was the only one on the track. Then one of the boys who was already done went and joined running a little slower, letting stay just a little bit ahead while encouraging him, telling him he could do it and encouraging him to keep going. When crossed the finish line all the kids cheered for him and he was just beaming. I wish I could have seen it myself. Without that extra encouragement he might have been very sad but thanks to his very kind and thoughtful classmate it became a positive experience for and probably everyone else involved. 's teacher couldn't tell me this without tears and apparently a lot of other staff were quite moved as well. It brings tears to my eyes every time I think of it.

Wow...it brings tears to mine! And, yes, not all kids

are cruel...it just seems the cruel ones are attracted

to our children...but there are good ones out there

and we need to steer our kids in that direction. I

guess that is why it hurts me....my son would never do

any of the things he has rec'd and he is so

forgiving....if a friend was cruel one day...

would forgive him and play with him the next day! Is

this how he should be? Too forgiving or teating others

as thou wants to be treated? I am not sure but i loved

your story and will keep that in my mind!

How wonderful!!!! Do you know who this kid is? I'd be sure to let him know how proud and thankful you are for what he did.....and maybe let his folks know what an amazing thing he did....and what it meant to you and your son. Wonderful!!! OMG Miriam, this story was so inspiring that I read it to my children. I also explained how much of a difference it made for with one special kid to encourage him to finish and the class cheering him on...What a great story !!! thanks for post this story. Miriam:that is great, I would contact that boy and/or his parents and tell them how much it meant to you and your son and that they have done a great job with their son... Everybody likes a pat on the back... a job well done.. Your son is lucky to have those kinds of classmates, wish all of our kids did. Great story... wish we had more of those kinds instead of the bully stories.. Toni
