Guest guest
We went to the Opthomologist today and it was pretty uneventful. I liked the doctor that I saw last time a little better than this one. They tested his eyes and dialated them and said that they are fine. He has slight Ptosis but she believes that it is nothing to worry about at this time. She basically said the same as everybody else. He has an asymmetric face. I brought a few photos that I felt really showed the eye droop and she kept one for his file. All in all I must say that I am relieved that there is nothing wrong with his eyesight. As far as future problems, she just said that he would require annual checkups but she couldn't say anything for sure. On another note...you wouldn't believe what I saw in the waiting room...A baby with just about the most abnormally shaped head I have ever seen! The mom sat right across from us and we even talked a little bit. When she took her 6 month old baby's hat off(my husband kicked me), I think my jaw must have hit the floor! FLAT BACK of head, lopsidded front, bulgey eyes...and the scary thing is, I don't think she has a clue! She never once asked me what Max's Starband was for (I was hoping she would). The baby was 6 months old and I am hoping that her doctor will say something in the near future. I didn't feel comfortable bringing it up...she might of just slapped me (ha ha), how do you tactfully say to somebody that their baby's head looks abnormal? The minute we got outside my husband said...and you think Max's head is bad! In the end, I feel sorry that she doesn't know and is not getting the proper help that she and her baby needs. That's the problem with this condition..I think most peoplethink the head will just " round out " . Thank you all for your support. By the way...what a blast chatting the other night...when are you guys coming to the Big Apple? Love to have ya! Amy
Guest guest
Amy, Thanks for the update on Max and the info about the eye exam. I am glad to hear that Max's eyes are OK. I can imagine how hard it must have been to NOT say anything to the mother you saw. There is just no tactful way to suggest to someone that their child's head may be misshapen. The chat night was great - I'm glad you were there!! Marci (Mom to ) Oklahoma
Guest guest
Amy, I have to ask, since you mentioned the " Big Apple " , do you live in NYC? I live in Poughkeepsie which is about 2 hours north....Jill lives in Accord which is right across the river from me, and I know there are a couple of other moms that live in this area. Guest guest
Amy, First, I'm glad to hear that Max's eyesight is fine. I have been keeping with your posts, and it seems you have been through many doctors and exams with him for his eyes. Hopefully, the band will correct his assymetry. As for the woman in the waiting room, to be honest, I can feel for her. Perhaps she recognizes the problem, but like many of us, it took a long time to get to a solution. Before Sophie got her band on Valentine's Day, I was embarrassed for people to see the back of her head. In fact, I'm less embarrassed for her to be seen in the DOC. My husband and I never brought the plagio to other peoples attention, even family members, and who knows what they were thinking, maybe the same thing you were. Now that she wears the band, family members say they thought her head would just round out. Wow, I just read what I have written, and I don't want anyone to think I was embarrassed of my own daughter. That's not it at all.She is one out of the two most important purposes to my life. I guess it's hard to explain what I mean, but I think it has more to do with feeling guilty for her not being perfect. Anyway,....I'm really not on drugs!!!!!! Hope this didn't all come out wrong. Guest guest
Glad to hear everything is OK with Max, Amy. About that baby's head, well, I just don't know. I carry flyers in my diaper bag, but I don't know what I would do if I were presented with the situation.
