Guest guest
Hi ! We were undecided for a long time, too. If you search back you can probably find my posts from the decision stage. I felt so torn. We were told that her head would correct on its own to some degree but would probably be more corrected, and sooner, with a band. In the end, I think it's a personal decision and you have to weigh the pros and cons for your child, but in my case most of the " cons " had more to do with me than my child (like me feeling weird taking her out in public in it), so we decided to go for it. Genna gets her band on Tuesday. As for birthdays and such, we plan to keep Genna in her band as much as possible but will take her out of it sometimes for pictures, especially on special occasions. Everyone tells me the band doesn't affect development negatively so you don't have to worry about that. Our band is $3000. That includes the band and all the associated appointments. We don't know yet if our insurance will pay for it; we have Aetna POS. They have a pretty good track record of paying, so we are hopeful!! Good luck with your decision and feel free to " call " on me if you need anything. > hello everyone! i just joined yesterday. well my son is 7months old > and we saw a neurosurgeon tuesday. the doctor recomended the band > because my son has a flat spot on the right side aswell as a forehead > bump. his regular doctor told us that his head will outgrow this, im > not sure. i guess i am just feeling overwhelmed. i know my son will > only have the band 4 or 5 months but that is a long time when i think > of what the next few months mean(crawling, first steps ,birthday > etc..)i want to do the right thing but my son's plagio is not > noticiable unless i point it out. well we are waiting to hear from > the insurance co. how expensive is it? well thanks for listening. > jennifer
Guest guest
jennifer, do what your heart tells you to do. we have all been there and made the decision one way or another. it's not an easy thing to do. as far as milestones such as crawling etc...i truely dont believe that it hinders them at all. some bands/helmets are larger or heavier than others so you may want to go to the files section and check out different styles. also maybe do a post asking people specifically any questions you have of the pictures you are interested in. my son was just put in the doc band at almost 11 months and he is rolling around like crazy and having no problems with any of his motor skills. i think that if you are concerned and dont like what your doctor says, maybe try to get a 2nd opinion from another ped. dr if possible. i think if you read some old posts too, you will see that a lot of doctors say that it will work itself out-and i have yet to see that happen personally with anyone i know. but maybe your case isnt that bad? i dont know. but either way-dont let people pressure you to do it or not to. take a deep breath, gather info, read and re-read as many posts as you can....and then you will feel confident in your decision. i wish you the best of luck and we are all here for you!!!!! lisa > hello everyone! i just joined yesterday. well my son is 7months old > and we saw a neurosurgeon tuesday. the doctor recomended the band > because my son has a flat spot on the right side aswell as a forehead > bump. his regular doctor told us that his head will outgrow this, im > not sure. i guess i am just feeling overwhelmed. i know my son will > only have the band 4 or 5 months but that is a long time when i think > of what the next few months mean(crawling, first steps ,birthday > etc..)i want to do the right thing but my son's plagio is not > noticiable unless i point it out. well we are waiting to hear from > the insurance co. how expensive is it? well thanks for listening. > jennifer
