Heidi - That is a joke! Get on torticolliskids if you haven't done so already! GURR!! Call and make an appointment with a different person and request a person familiar with torticollis and treating children!

Heidi:

We didn't do PT, but personally, I would seek another physical therapist.... you deserve someone who is going to help you and show you what to do -- and be the "expert" for you as you learn how to do the exercises. I've been to some Torticollis pages doing research and some stated to NOT try the exercises without guidance of a professional....

Also, I'd let your Pediatrician know of this experience and if he/she thinks it is a normal way for a paid physical therapist to perform.

Just my opinion....

Good Luck.

My son has pretty bad torticollis and the exercises at home aren't going so well so our ped referred us to physical therapy. We were very anxious to have them "work" with our son and help us with his stiffness. We got there and the only thing the lady did was give us handouts and tell us about how to do them. We were expecting her to do them and really work with him (even through his tears). She had the hardest time even remembering and figuring out which side needed the work. My husband and I kept telling her. Then we started giving our opinions and advice about what we think Luke needs and she just said "yeah do that to" and basically repeated and reiterated what we already know. Needless to say we walked away VERY bugged and concerned about what we should do. At the end of our "session" she said work on those for 3 weeks and come back and see me................WHAT 3 weeks before you want to see him. Should we request to go somewhere else or is this normal? Please respond if you've had PT.............or notThanks,Heidi & MarkParents to Luke

Heidi--

I would make sure you have someone new next time--preferably someone

with pediatric experience. We got lucky with our first PT, and she

was actually the one who thought we might want to go to a craniofacial

spec. to explore the possibility of the DOC band. Our PT sessions

were quite beneficial, and she was the one who really got Chandler's neck

loosened up. In the beginning, we went twice a week and were doing

home exercises twice a day. I would seek out a new PT as soon as

you can--and not return to the other one!! Is the PT you saw in a

clinic setting/group setting?? Our's was affiliated with the hospital

that our ped's office is at. I think Easter Seals also has PT services.

I guess it depends on your insurance. (At least United Healthcare

paid for all her PT--just not the band!)

Good luck in finding help--and trust your instincts!!

I would find a different therapist. My Hanna didn't even have torticollis, but the PT worked with her for 2 sessions (pulling, stretching, etc) to make sure nothing was there. Check with your local Children's Hospital, or call around and find someone who specialized in infants and torticollis.

Good luck, and let us know.

Heidi-

That does NOT sound right - please try to get a referral to a different

physical therapist if you can! I am so sorry to hear that it didn't go well.

That would have made me so mad!!
