Hi Everyone,

My son is three and I have over the past year let him get used to the idea of

potty training. Well, the other morning he woke up and said, Mama, I'm

Miserable! I asked why, and he told me his dad wouldn't talk to him {My

husband was on his way out the door at the time} I'm not sure what hit me,

but figured if he is old enough to say that; he is old enough to go to the

potty like a big boy. I told him I talked to Dr. Samsone, and he said we

needed to work on potty training. I gave him two days notice and this is our

second day and we have had 4 successes and 2 boo-boo's. Not bad, he's really

trying so it's going well. I took the cowards way out, but it worked.

Now, I have been buying underwear for a while, not the name brand kind. Can

someone tell me what the best brand is? It drives me crazy buying things that

just don't work, or is uncomfortable. Give me a brand, and I will be a

customer for life!!!

I can't speak for boy's underpants! had some toddler girls'

Hanes, which I liked - they fit well and wore well...(I didn't get

the Pooh or Blue's Clues). I was looking for the bigger size at

WalMart and I bought her the cheaper Lovepats because they were out

of 4T Hanes... They were terrible! The elastic came undone and they

rode up 's cheeks...although the little bow on the front helped

remember which side was the front (no problemo with the little

boys' briefs!).

Your post made me remember a funny story I related way back .... some

of you old-timers and those from the tortkids site might

remember it.... I put 's clothes out for Daddy to dress her

while and I flew to Dallas for an adjustment.... When we

returned home, I found that put the skort on backwards so the

flap was in the rear (they had been out all over town!!) and when I

took the skort off to turn it around I couldn't believe what I

found....He put one underpant leg through the waistband and the other

leg through the leg opening...the other leg opening was around her

waist!!!!! I calmly and politely tried not to smirk (it was all I

could do not to burst out laughing in front of him!!!), and

instructed him that little girls wear underpants the same way that

little boys and men do...with the waistband around the waist!!! The

toddler Hanes did not have a bow in front, and certainly not the

telltale opening the boy's underpants have....he must have gotten

confused.... So we had a REALLY good laugh. I took a picture of it

for 's scrapbook - " My daddy dresses me funny! "

So, at least when puts his underpants on, he'll have the

telltale front to let him know which way they go!!! And a Daddy

really can't mess that one up....at least not with his son!!!

I've never heard of ping pong balls before! Thank you for the advice. It's

still pretty cold here in Michigan. I figured enough with the size 6 diapers!

Everyone keeps telling me to wait until he decides for himself. Well, the

potty has been in the bathroom for a year, just in case, and I personally

wasn't seeing any of the decision making on his part. Big sweats, and the

sensation has done the trick, I hope! You never know, I hear set backs are

possible, so I will be armed to the hilt with Piddlers, Cheerios, and Ping

Pong Balls!! :)

katherine,

I can't recommend undies from over here, but my 6 year old did not

properly fully toilet train until 3 1/2.

We started in summer as toilet training is not a winter sport, to

cold to run around without indies on and getting wet!

One thing we did find successful, similar to Piddlers was plain old

Ping Pong balls, we drew faces on them and stood on his step

and aimed at them, the good thing they float and will not flush and

no fishing involved! We did have to explain to him that they wouldn't

flush as he started to get upset at the first flush!

Cheers and good luck!

I am going to try to get Vince "trained" before he starts school in the fall. He is so short so I plop him on the toilet. He gets a big kick out of it. My question is...is there some sort of cover for the big toilet that we can use so he doesn't pee between the seat and the bowl? Belinda

re:potty training: For my son we started last summer just before he

turned three. He was aware of the potty but wouldn't use it. I was

listening to good morning america and they had a ped on and he

suggested the following (and I know of at least 3 moms near me who

tried it and it worked). Put the potty in the family room or kitchen

or some place where your son usually is in the house and then leave

him in only a shirt. He will realize that he has nothing on his

bottom and will need to go somewhere and if the potty is readliy

visible and close by he will use it. Worked like a charm for us.

Lots and lots of praise!!!! My little guy is obsessed with batman at

the moment so I bought him batman undies from Hanes. Kaycee

,My now 3 1/2 year old daughter was almost impossible to potty train! I got her a potty seat and we started wearing pull-ups...she treated them like diapers. So I started using underwear, and again she treated them like diapers and didn't seem to mind the wet or anything. Finally I discovered that it was the potty seat that was irking her off. She wanted to sit on the toilet just like everyone else. So I bought a toilet seat insert and a stool and it worked like a charm. She still had a lot of accidents - but at that time it was summer and we were outside a lot and little kids don't realize they have to go until they are actually going. But now six months later, she is waking up at night to go to the bathroom, she is totally fine when we go to the store...she gives enough warning now so we can find a bathroom...........and all is well.So maybe if your little boy is reluctant to use the potty, try getting a toilet insert and a stool........this way he will truly be "one of the big people". :o)Sincerely,Jaya Dongwww.caps2000.org> ,> > I've never heard of ping pong balls before! ARRRRGGGGG....I didn't mean "we started wearing pull-ups"....I meant SHE started wearing pull-ups! Honest, I have been potty-trained for many many years! Jaya,

I guess I got lucky! He does not like the sensation at all. He will note it,

and point it out to me, and walk bowed legged to the bathroom!! Thank

Goodness!! He is a BIG Water drinker, so I'm sure night time training will

not come for a while! I don't mind this at all. I tried the One Step Ahead

pants that absorb a great deal, and he was fine with that. Streaming down his

legs is a different matter.

He doesn't care for the big potty, so I had him pick out a potty of his own.

Of course, it was a musical one with a padded seat, and I haven't had c

batteries in the house for 3 months. Today he reminded me Not to forget the C

batteries for his potty. What a Sassafras! That's what I used to call both of

them!
