Guest guest
My son is on it. He takes .5 in the am and .5 at night. He also takes 40 mg Straterra. The Straterra has a bad side effect of anger so the Risperdal has counter acted that. Now it has made him gain alot of weight, which I don't like, but we make sure he eats fruit and such and not chips! Tracey Shockey MYspace SUPER DUPER single mom! Guest guest
Has anyone tried risperdal? My ds just started today and I would like any input you guys have on this. thanks! in Pittsburgh ( ) Anyone on Depakote?? possible reaction.. Nick's doctor put him on Depakote. He started it Monday so I'm not sure if this is just coincidence. But ever since he's been taking it he is BOUNCING OFF THE WALLS!! WAY more than normal. He's talking non stop, totally mis-behaving, and just wont stop for even a second.I read up on Depakote and it says causes drowsieness ... ya, no. My mom said to watch it cause my sister always had the opposite reaction to all her meds. Is this a bad reaction??
Guest guest
Yes, My son has been using it since May. He is 11 and it seemed like 1 day,,,,,,he got more irritable and angry. Some say it's the adhd stimulant meds. Others say getting older. Who knows. But,,,,,,, it worked. He still got angry..........but normal angry. Not 3 hours of anger. If he takes his adhd meds,,,,,,,,he takes the Risperdal. Oh - and no major wt gain, yet. Hope this helps.Robin <jewel929@...> wrote: Has anyone tried risperdal? Visit TV's Comedy with an Edge to see what's on, when. > Risperdal works better for my son than the ADHD meds. Stimulant meds cause him to halucinate to an extreme, even the new " non- stimulant " . He sees and hears things that aren't there. Risperdal is the first med that didn't cause him to have major problems. I think possibly it's that every child is different.. and in such can react different. I think it's about finding what works for your child. When using risperdal, he's still moody and he still struggles, but it's just not to the extreme that he was before he started meds.
Guest guest
Best medicine ever! But that is my case only, I know it varies by child/person. Seriously... meds have been a nightmare, but Risperdal reduced my sons meltdowns wonderfully! <jewel929@...> wrote: Has anyone tried risperdal? Guest guest
Took a look at my daughter's older medical files and when she weighed 40 pounds, she was prescribed 25mg. Risperdal x 3/day and then this was increased to 4x. Has anyone tried risperdal? Guest guest
I think perhaps you meant .25 mg 3/x per day. Most of the literature on pharmacotherapy and ASD suggests that when Risperdal or any other second gen antipsychotic is perscribed the dosing should start low and slow then brought up to what appears to be the right theraputic level. Guest guest
, My son has been taking risperdal since the beginning of the year. It has done wonders for him. It has helped to calm him down and control at least 90% of the rages that we were having. It has also helped him to sleep at night. There are some side effects that you should be aware of.. so just check on that. My son has experienced about a 5 pound weight gain since he started taking it.. but he could stand to gain some weight... he's a little stick!! LOL I'm please with the results of this medication so far! Jackie On Aug 23, 2007, at 3:24 PM, wrote: > Has anyone tried risperdal? Guest guest
My son is 10.5 and weighs 62 pounds.. his dosage is .50mg at bedtime! We started out with the .25mg and it didn't seem to work so they increased the dosage and I began to see improvement!
