Guest guest
Selena, Congratulations on getting your band! I'm glad to hear that Ian is adapting well to it and that you feel you have a good fit. As far as head measurements go - our orthotist was indeed the one who took the measurements. He took the measurements the day we went for casting. He had a " ruler " that looked kind of like a square (like carpenters use) and he measured her to see how much asymmetry there was. He has not taken any new measurements since that time, but I'm sure he will when we graduate in a few weeks. I would insist that your orthotist contact Orthoamerica to get their input on taking head measurements and if he won't I would contact Orthoamerica myself and ask them about it! Why not? You are paying them for a service and a product!! Please keep us posted on your progress!!! Marci (Mom to ) Oklahoma

Selena & Ian from Denver 8/7/00, STARBanded 2/22/01 Selena - I found a small pharmacy that special ordered for me. Tried Walmart and Shopko but they wouldn't in my area. I got the 99%. Was under $2.00. My neurosurgeon, pediatric neurologist nor orthotics person have ever measured . The DOC Band clinic was the only ones that ever took measurements. Sorry! Guest guest
Hi everyone, I thought I would give you an update. Tremendous thanks to Connie & Ann for all your advice and support. My son Ian finally got his STARBand. But it wasn't easy! We wanted the band to show the cranialfacial specialist on 2/21 since he's only had experience with DOC Bands. Orthoamerica shipped the band to the wrong address, it hung out in Denver for a few days, then shipped back to Orlando! I was very upset so I called them and they made a brand new helmet and fedexed it overnight just in time for our appointment! What a mess, not to mention I had to wait over 3 weeks. Oh well, it's done now. So, now I'm a bit disappointed since I thought the specialist would take Ian's head measurements. He didn't. He says that is the job of the orthotist. Well, our orthotist says he doesn't know how, that Orthoamerica hasn't trained the practioners how to do it. So, how else does one measure progress???? Does anyone know of a doctor that takes the head measurements? I know one can take pictures to document progress, but I REALLLY would like some hardfast numbers to see improvement. Ian has been in his band for 5 days. NO PROBLEM. He sweats alot, but I guess that's normal. It seems like a good fit, no red spots.
