There were lots of kids who didn't knock who were covered with shaving cream. I guess they were having their own brand of fun. Most kids came with a parent. I think folks were very determined to give the kids a normal holiday. Liam has been fighting a sinus infection and isn't a big sweet eater anyway. So I had help giving out the candy. Guest guest
Nic got into it this year. He would knock on the door and if it wasn't answered within 5 seconds, he would try the knob. LOL Then when they did answer he just pushed his way into the house. Thank goodness we only went to family and close friends' houses. He signed " thankyou " but most thought he was blowing a kiss. Di, mom to Jake(18,nda) and 4 (DS) Pennsylvania Re: Trick or Treat We had a nice Halloween here in San Diego. We went to friends for a quick dinner before the trick or treating began. My 50's girl went ahead with friends (and dads) while my dh and I kept up the slower pace with our ladybug and Baby Bop. was an adorable ladybug, though she didn't want the hood with the antenae on them. So, I just put her hair into two high ponytails, which looked like droopy antenae. She marched right along, knocking on doors, etc., but at the first house, after she got the candy, we said " what do you say " , and she looked at the woman and said (and I kid you not, with perfect clarity).................... " One more please? " . Of course, the woman thought it was cute, and gave her more candy. Yikes!!!!!!!! She tested this strategy at the next house as well (with no prompting :-), with positive results again............it took the next 30 houses to try and break her of that request. Who says our kids take longer to learn things? Baby Bop was the third 2 year old girl ij our family to wear the costume, and I think its ready for retirement. She was the first to refuse the hat part, which made it more difficult to figure out what she was, oh well. Glad the frenzy is over.... now it's time to try and get rid of the candy (without me eating it!). Mom to (6), (3.5 DS) and (2)

Guest guest
I have given out crayons in the past. This year I will probably give out glow bracelets. I got 1000 of them on ebay for about $40. Ann Marie On Oct 11, 2006, at 3:53 PM, Agnew wrote: > What can I offer trick or treaters? Guest guest
Steph, I am not big on Halloween. As a matter of fact, it is my least favorite holiday. Nonetheless, I still do let my kids participate in trick or treating (a tradition that may soon come to an end). And, because they go out, I feel obligated to hand something out too. So, I too go the non-food route and usually give something like stickers or pencils or some little toy.(that I bought on clearance the year before-too late for that now!). Some kids might be disappointed, but some are relieved to get something other than candy. Kathy
Guest guest
back to the good old little boxes of raisins that my parents used to give out and i always hated. any better ideas? > > What can I offer trick or treaters? Guest guest
I've taken to handing out QUARTERS! Sure some will take a double look but no complaints so far. Each candy bar they get is probably worth 5 cents. Coins do not add to the landfill, do not harm health (well unless they're swallowed!) and do not line the pockets of the candy companies. Yea! For my kids' classmates, I have lined up a nice supply of pencils and stickers to put in halloween themed ziploc bags. The teachers (and parents) will love me for that foresight. Heh. ;-) I would do apples from the orchard for the trick-treaters but honestly I do not think many people regard apples in a positive light as treats nowadays. If I didn't know where my kid got that apple from, I would take it away- maybe I am paranoid on that. Sara

For me, Halloween meant initially, only going to the very well-known and trusted neighbors' houses (not too many in our rural setting). Then eventually going to other neighborhoods with an older sibling and her children BUT not being allowed to eat any candy until my parents had sorted through it all and pulled anything they considered suspect, including all fruit (and probably also their favorite chocolates besides!). http://www.snopes.com/horrors/mayhem/needles.asp I think I might just turn off the porch light and hide this year. ~ Genie
Guest guest
I hear that www.lifesvigor.com has lollipops that are free of corn syrup and such. It was suggested on another group for holistic parents. I haven't tried them, though. Emilie --------------------------------- All-new - Fire up a more powerful email and get things done faster. Guest guest
well, this was thomas (6) first year out trick or treating...it went very well! It was interesting though, he really was into the details of people lives...like " why didnt they carve thier pumpkin? " and " why isnt your house scary? " He also observed the big dipper, and gave me a detailed explanation of how the whole lit up pumpkinon the porch thing got started. He was very polite though, and onlygot scared once, and recovered immediately. After 45 minutes, his pants had gotten on his nerves (too loose) and he was eady to go home, his suggestion, actually. He seemed to have a good time though, I am glad we went. Next year he wants to be a vampire. This year he was a soldier. I am so glad I was off work and got to go with him! Happy Halloween yall! kate
Guest guest
>Yes, Yes and YES!! I hope your move went well. I'm sure it must be a relief!! As soon as I find a place my light bulbs (still in shipping carton), Kleen and Green and I are out of here. I am a pack rat so this is my biggest challenge to throw away most of my stuff and pack the rest in tubs to go to storage for at least a year or more. I feel like I am in the citizens protection program. I am not even going to take my rolodex. I will try to work up the courage to look at that site............. it just might take me off the deep end at this point. I am very scared and fragile. " Baby steps " is what I keep telling myself. (That's from the movie " What about Bob " with Bill Murray and it's very funny.............and this stuff isn't). Keep up the battle! Lou > > OMG, Lou - HE has it TOO, no???
