Guest guest
Hi Robin "Right"!! I agree. I am so confused with these insurances. It seems like there are too many loop holes in there for the agencies that involve us paying. I learned this through (bad) experience. right on the application. State: as per our insurance policy, they are accepting this dx and will provide/pay you for services for my child. If your not participating with my insurance, do not accept this application... *I bet you have better wording for this. but my point is, if the provider doesn't accept your insurance - don't proceed. have that written right on the application...ask for a copy of that application. but (only if you have experienced problems with your insurance or choice of doctors, billing office)...I have. and/or Robin Lemke <jrisjs@...> wrote: Hi Rose. Guest guest
It can be so confusing with these different perspectives from doctors, insurance companies, counselors, etc. In a message dated 10/31/2007 9:50:34 P.M. Guest guest
It would be interesting to see. I don't know how they filled out the paperwork for the insurance companies, but whenever I called up to get preapproval, I told them that she has "Asperger's, a form of autism." Guest guest
Ruthie, You have many good points here. I have so many problems with insurance, makes a person want to cry! I now learned to write on the application itself, If your not participating with this DX, 'don't see us'!!!...then I ask for a copy of that application. the ins. personal at billing don't want to hear anything BUT pay out of pocket, you should of read the policy. So, I was confused when reading post that reads, (in some states) they have to have a dx of Autism not aspergers for the insurance to cover treatment, or like Roxanne wrote a concern with her insurance. so for her son to get treated for something, they can't mention the word autism because the insurance won't cover it. (I don't remember the exact wording she used, I'm sure she will correct me) AMAZING, while in NY they would accept an autism dx. Now you mentioned it shouldn't differ from state to state, but it sure seems like it. Guest guest
It IS sick, isn't it? But I'm sure that's why some seem to struggle to get someone to SEE their child as THEY do and to get a dx for some help and others seem to have a willing doctor. Sad. Guest guest
Roxanna, do you know anything about any of this stuff?? My husband wonders if there is something different state-to-state, but I can tell you that the DSM-IV is universal (and he agrees with that). If there is something state-to-state, we are not sure what it would be, as the only thing I know of, personally (and I do want to be a therapist when we can allow me to commute to a school to do---probably AFTER my Asperger's boys are grown), is the licensing and their hours, but even those, are pretty universal I am pretty sure (other than it is issued state by state and perhaps the hours are called something different state to state). Interestingly, the school is diagnosis YOUR KIDS??? Our school psychiatrist evaluated our son but refused to diagnosis?? That is weird to us, too. It is MESSED UP!!!! WEIRD STUFF.... Guest guest
That doesn't make sense to me at all! But whenever I've had insurance coverage through my different jobs, there was someone different that I had to call for Mental Health. For example, I think I had CHN one time but I had to call Magellan for Mental Health issues. Maybe you have something like that? The HR department at your husband's job should know. I've never had a problem with 's issues being covered so I really don't understand why other people do. Deb In a message dated 11/1/2007 1:47:35 P.M. Guest guest
Sorry to hear it, Toni. I don't blame you for being mad, but I have to say, I'm not surprised. Insurance companies *hate* bipolar disorder. People with bipolar disorder need shrinks for medication. They need to avoid stress so lots of them need therapists, too. Then there's the occasional wigging out (either mania or depression) (some people have it under good control and don't do this) which necessitates a stay in the hospital. I have bipolar disorder, and I've cost my insurance company a bundle. They would love to see the end of me. None of which makes it right for them to discriminate against the mentally ill. It sucks. I think it's a great idea to get an attorney and re-apply for SS. And no need to go to the corner. Guest guest
Dh said we could get COBRA through work but it would be about 350$ apiece a month and we were trying to get something cheaper...I guess we'll have to bite the bullet and pay an arm and a leg with COBRA... [sPAM]Re: ( ) Re: teenage concerns I love hearing the success stories! That gives us encouragement! 's special ed teacher last year said that would do well in college because all the kids will want to be there, not have to be there, and their attitudes will be different. I hope that is true. Guest guest
Maybe I could call the pdoc and ask him to change his diagnosis since he hasn't been on any meds since about Feb..for anything.. and had no crisis'. I bet though since they went back and looked at his records and his has been hospitalized (at Central State) it won't make any difference now... Guest guest
COBRA is very expensive! We were on that for a while and I couldn't afford to keep us both on it. I had to stay on it because I was having surgery so I had to take off and pay full price for doctors and meds. It was very difficult; but cheaper than paying for surgery and physical therapy for me. I remember it was over $700 per month for the two of us, and I was just being paid disability at the time. Deb In a message dated 11/2/2007 11:31:40 A.M. Guest guest
Deb, do you have health insurance for now? Because you can apply for HEALTH PLEX for . its for kids under 18. you can go to the hospitals or doctors office for the application to apply. Also, does your school have Health Zone? - might be called something different at each school. but it's at no cost to you... and can see a doctor (different from school nurse) in the school if she's not feeling well. that school doctor can also call in prescriptions for you too. If this doesn't work for you in your state. Please post this asking about medical insurance for your child and others will respond with other choices for you to choose.debmetsfan@... wrote: COBRA is very expensive!
