It does take forever for them to correct the mistake! Interesting that it may have been a college kid.

I had faxed the necessary information in August and never received confirmation. When I called a week before the policy end date, I was told that the state was holding it for the end date to be entered. Something so simple, I could have done it myself! When I called the state, they said it would take 10 days to complete and that we would have a lapse in coverage! When I called back the first person (who told me that the state had it) she was no longer there. It's just crazy. But then I received a bill for the same amount that I usually pay and paid it and everything seems to be fine. Just a frustrating hassle.

NJ Family Care is really great! I'm so glad she's on it. It's very affordable. Sometimes, there are problems with it. Her policy was up for renewal and they argued with me that she was still insured under my previous company, but I hadn't worked there since 2005, so I had to provide proof. And this was after she had been on this insurance a year already! But that seems to be fixed now. You don't have to be very low income to get it, either. I did apply when I was unemployed but even though I work full-time, we're still eligible!

is on NJ Family Care. That is low cost insurance through the state for people with low incomes. The mental health part is covered through Medicaid. It took a year for me to find that out! But now that I did, she's getting the help that she needs with therapy! The insurance that we have through NJ Family Care is Americhoice. It is an HMO. I pay $17.50 per month. My doctor copays are only $5. Prescriptions are just $1 each. We are in plan C. The higher your income goes up, the higher you get bumped up through the plans. Plan D does not provide any dental coverage but Plan C does. And the monthly payments are twice as much. I think the copays double, too. If I went to put on my insurance through work, it would cost me $400 per month. I don't like her pediatrician very much but it's only $5 to take her there. By the way, what age does a pediatrician go up to? Is it 18?

's special ed teacher last year said that would do well in college because all the kids will want to be there, not have to be there, and their attitudes will be different. I hope that is true.

We have BCBS through dh work and it's excellent and they covered them then... now that we were trying to get it ourselves they don't qualify..

My understanding is that as long as they are in college they can, but my kids have been out of school (except for GED prep and test) since last year...and they just turned 19 on Oct 19 and they aren't in college so we have to pay until they go to college. I guess they have to take a full load too, does anybody know if they cover even if they are unable to take a full load? that's my next concern..always something for me to worry about lol, Toni

depends on the plan and the " state manadates " (laws governing cut off

age etc) Most plans in most state cover through age 19 without being

enrolled in school (actually I think this is true for all states now

that I think of it, because some children who have late birthdays or who

were held back are still in school up until close to their 19th

birthday.) Also in most states if it says through age 19 it means until

11:59 pm on the night before the individual turns 20. So either way

your young men should still be able to be to be covered at least until

they turn 19 if not until they are almost 20 without having to show

proof of college enrollment. Its just a thought.

and medicaid and the likes say no because they live with you or because

" they are not severely disabled " Im so sorry. This is why I got out of

insurance. One more option would be to see if you could get them

covered as disabled dependants (requires paperwork from their doctor

(not the insurance companies)) But this may take a while to get as

well, but its another option.

you're the best Pam...thanks so much for caring enough to research for me... They wouldn't be going to UGA though, it's too big and too far. I'm looking at Ga College and St University and Ga Military College in Milledgeville. They are both only about 15 to 20 miles from our house. I'll look them up although I don't do any better on the phone, I'm so sad to say, that I'm scared of talking to just about everyone, and I wonder where the kids get that from? sad they don't have an advocate in me.
