Charlyne, this may be a stupid question, but what's an FBA? Different

states, I realize, have different wordings for the same things......

Hi ,

An FBA is a functional behavioral analysis, this is universal ,all states use

the same language for this one. Schools tend to intimidate the best of us. We

do have the last say!

Fba is functional behavior assessment, used to be called fb analyses but

they changed it or so the training lady who spoke today at the fba seminar i

attended said....

A= antecendant to the behavior

B= why the behavior is happening

C= what are the consequences of the behavior

she said there are two reasons behaviors happens:

1. trying to get something

2. trying to escape from something

they usually have someone do observations of the child in many different

settings, different times of day, within different environments ' with diff

people... then they formulate the data and come up with a PBP, positive

behavior plan... thats the summary in a nutshell.....

Who does the FBA? My daughter is in fourth grade and has asperger's

and she is chasing around this little boy at the cocersion of the

other children, the school is taking away her recess and has mention if

the behavior doesn't stop they will kick her out of school. I don't

think she is fully responsible because she even obey's three year olds

but she does feel threatened by this other child. What is a parent to

do? Dianna in Edmond

I think it is your IEP team that does the FBA. As we are doing one

for my 7th grader and it is my IEP team that will be there.

As for the other children I would have a talk with the teacher as

there is a strong No bullying policy around these days.

The school or moreover the teacher should put an end to this

behavior as I would think it would be affecting all of the children in

this class.

I am so sorry you are having to go through all of this and good luck.

The school psychologist usually does the observations and actually writes up the FBA. Anyone who is having contact with your child could be part of the FBA (classroom teacher, speech therapist, etc). Sometimes a person with extensive knowledge of autism is part of the process. Either a district autism consultant or an outside source. Pam :)See what's new at AOL.com and Make AOL Your Homepage.
