Guest guest
My has never tried skating. She did do dance for over 5 years (tap and ballet). She was pretty good but it seemed harder for her when she became older and she quit. Deb In a message dated 10/27/2007 10:39:11 A.M. If I understood correctly, this can also be a generic problem for kids with AS? Is that so? Why? And how do you handle it?I've always thought of my son being extremely lazy and having a fear for getting exhausted in any form, both physical and mentally. So I thought this was an interesting perspective...Rannveig/. Guest guest
I just realized - did it for 8 years. So she would have been 12 when she quit. You could tell she wasn't into it any more. Maybe because of what you said - the skill level was going up and she didn't want to do it or she felt she couldn't. Deb In a message dated 10/27/2007 4:15:19 P.M. Guest guest
Roxanne and others- My 6.5 Son just sat down next to me and I check to see how he was sitting and it was in the " W " position. He still uses training wheels, can hear noises like the sump pump alarm from a distance nobody else can, has intolerance to smells, cannot catch a baseball in his glove (but bats very well), is lost on the soccer field as far as where to go (but does well in drills where 1-on-1 you dribble to goal and shoot - then practice game with 4+ per team gets lost), has no spaces between words when he writes, plays by himself at recess because he says he is has to listen to his mom and 4.5 year old sister and the school all the time that he just wants to be by hinmself at recess so he doesn't have to do what anyone else tells him (play dates have been an issue as he won't do something the other child wants and then something he wants), had stamina issues such as only one at zoo that needed to be carried from being tired at the end of the day/has had odd gait on and off (at one point said his left left and hands feel numb at times so that is why he had the gait or hand flaps, gut issues, tantrums, ... on and on. However, he is either so high functioning that nobody sees it. The school did an IEP/504 evaluation at my request and say they don't see any issues at school, but they are keeping and eye on him and when his grades/scores drop they will be ready. The Nuero said he looks like a " normal kid " , but did want us to do a CAT Scan and EEG as well as have her counterpart (behaviorist) see him... if we want a diagonosis. There are so many little things he does that fit the Asperger/High Functioning Autism spectrum, but he's doing OK in school and everything seems to be boarderline when looked at alone. I know it's important to address this early, but all I hear from Doctors... etc... is he's boarderline at most and will outgrow it. My wife was only onboard during a period of long, bad tantrums... which we have reduced partial due to diet... then she thinks he's better and takes him off it... then he starts to regress... and the cycle continues. One day my wife says the diet made a big change and then she tells me it's too expensive, hard to do and I read to much on the internet that inaccurate. Any ideas? Are there any little tests I can do to see what areas I need to work on him... ie. so his rote memory for math doesn't suddenly turn into issues when he needs to do problem solving or if he has visual learning issues? So he doesn't have issues relating to co-workers/spouse etc when older. I don't know if I'm overly concerned or need to continue to be my son's only advocate.
