OT: Someone calm me down

I dropped off my son late this morning so I could stay and hear him

sing the national anthem (a rare treat - my daughter is out sick so

we didn't drop him off at the crack of dawn). This however made me

have to encounter the other parents.

When Cate's mom dropped her off she said Cate had been out sick all

last week due to diarrhea that was so severe that by Friday she'd

taken her to the pediatrician, who diagnosed her with

gastrointestinal flu, AND GAVE HER A FLU SHOT.

She then went on to laugh and roll her eyes about the fact that her

often miserably screaming, severely autistic 4 year old son had had

a reaction to his flu shot, so he was home sick from that.

I actually almost fainted. I had to sit down for several minutes.

Now, I want to kill her.

I've given her books and websites because she said she was

interested, and politely encouraged her to look into the causes and

treatments of autism, because Cate seems like she has great

potential. I don't know if she's ignoring me, or just really

stupid.

WHAT ARE PEOPLE THINKING? Obviously the pediatricians giving a sick

autistic kid a flu shot are out of their minds, but ultimately her

mother gave the permission. Needless to say, Cate was a very

different girl today... miserable, nonverbal, and crying. The

teachers attributed this to having been " out of her school routine "

for a week.

What would you do? Or how do you ignore things like this?
