Guest guest
just reported on fox news...please read and give feedback - Thanks! Scientists Reverse Symptoms of Autism in Mice / Monday, June 25, 2007; 12:00 AM MONDAY, June 25 (HealthDay News) -- Scientists may have uncovered a way to reverse symptoms of mental retardation and autism in mice. .......The enzyme that was inhibited in this study is called p21-activated kinase, or PAK, and it affects the number, size and shape of connections between neurons and the brain. When PAK's activity was halted, the brain abnormalities in the FXS mice were reversed............ http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/06/25/AR2007062501 306.html
Guest guest
I, for one, am appalled at lumping autism with mental retardation.? My son most certainly is not retarded he is autistic, a result of Hg/vaccination insult.? To assume that one " drug " will help both is far fetched. Guest guest
I think this is an amazing discovery. It ties in with a lot of things like Vitamin D (which Hg depletes fairly rapidly), Riboflavin and NO (which a lot of autists are high in). I'm still googling the heck outta PAK and other things I know to factor in - but I think they're on the right track. I don't believe a PAK inhibitor is the answer though, since there are a lot of nutritional compounds that can modulate this (like D). -Lana On 6/27/07, Lin S <lasvegasmom@...> wrote: > > just reported on fox news...please read and give feedback - Thanks! > > Scientists Reverse Symptoms of Autism in Mice / Monday, June 25, 2007; > 12:00 > AM > > MONDAY, June 25 (HealthDay News) -- Scientists may have uncovered a way to > reverse symptoms of mental retardation and autism in mice. > > ......The enzyme that was inhibited in this study is called p21-activated > kinase, or PAK, and it affects the number, size and shape of connections > between neurons and the brain. > > When PAK's activity was halted, the brain abnormalities in the FXS mice > were > reversed............ > > > http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/06/25/AR2007062501 > 306.html > > >
Guest guest
I find this absolutely fantastic as well. I wonder whether this will have any effect on the idiopathic forms of epilepsy? I hope they follow through on this. The implications could be tremendous! --- Lana Gibbons <lana.m.gibbons@...> wrote: > I think this is an amazing discovery. Guest guest
I just had a quick look at Vitamin D and PAK and came across an article unrelated to autism but just as interesting. Vit D is a powerful inhibitor of breast cancer cell growth. Here's the link. There seems to be an effect on estrogen receptors on the cancer cells. Vitamin D is looking more and more interesting everyday! http://www.ingentaconnect.com/content/klu/brea/2003/00000080/00000001/05125027 Re: [ ] Scientists Reverse Symptoms of Autism in Mice / Massachusetts Institute of Technology, news release, June 25, 2007 I think this is an amazing discovery. Guest guest
Now that is interesting... I truly believe at this point that humans were not meant to live above 35N (where the vitamin D winter occurs). The vitamin D council has an incrediably thourough article on the Vitamin D and autism theory here: http://www.vitamindcouncil.com/health/autism/vit-D-theory-autism.shtml#hd1 I'm reading it a second time because I didn't get everything the first time around. -Lana On 6/28/07, JULIE GRIFFITHS <moppett1@...> wrote: > > I just had a quick look at Vitamin D and PAK and came across an article > unrelated to autism but just as interesting.
