Guest guest
my son uses a pill planner container to put his in..just open the am, afternoon and evening {one at a time for each time of day.}.the powder can be poured easily into the juice and if any one questions it he can always say he needed some aspirin for a headache.... they are not that large and can be carried in his pocket and best of all you can buy a few and put the powder in for him for each day..since one will hold enough for a whole day at each time.. and he will be all set for his trip...and the powder wont spill out and will stay fresh...... email me if you want _blueeyescryin69@..._ (mailto:blueeyescryin69@...) Guest guest
Hi Kim, any chance of switching to equivalent grams in pill form just for the trip? If so he could have them divided up and gulp them in the bathroom or other private situation. Another thought I had is putting the inositol into a drink in plastic bottles such as Sunny D or whatever he likes. The inositol could be added before he went, that way all he'd have to do is remember to drink a Sunny D with meals each day. Small emptied water bottles with drink mix and inositol powder already in them would mean he'd only have to add water, shake, and drink. In any case I would suggest measuring the doses ahead of time and putting them in some small container so all he has to do is drop the powder into his juice/drink with each meal. If a trusted adult is going along as chaperone, could this person take the responsibility of reminding him privately to prepare and take the inositol drink? Guest guest
>> most school trips don't allow the klds to have the meds themselves-but require an adult to be in charge of all the meds & to give them as required-also usually requires special paperwork & labeled orig bottles. We have done this on a number of trips for Josh- If he doesn't remember, they remind him. He needs a snack with bed time meds which we did send in his bag for all trips.m I wouls check with the school, they probably have a system. Guest guest
Hi Kim, My ideas ran along Kathy's lines. I've been trying to think of what I'd do with and those little drinks came to mind. Also Gatorade or some type sports drink or water in a bottle where he can open/close the bottle without worrying about spilling. I'm wondering if in like a taller type drink/bottle, you could go ahead and put 3 tsp in, he could shake it up before drinking about a 1/3 each time during the day, something he could carry along with him. He might could just take a larger dose in the a.m. if you can get him to remember. I can't think of any snack he could put it in and carry along or have in his room either.... Actually he will remember to take it, I'm sure, if he starts feeling anxious/stressed. It's just having the chance to take it w/out others around if that bothers him; or having it with him if they are out & about during the day. A ziplock sandwich back with a plastic spoon might fit in a pocket of some clothing he'll wear to carry around; just buy a coke or water or something and find somewhere to add it. I would let the school/adults know that he has a vitamin he takes and needs access to during the day. They might have rules, as someone said, and perhaps someone along on all the outings will have meds needed with them to remind/give. Just thinking you don't want some adult or another student seeing him with a bottle of white powder, LOL! Tell us what you try and how it works, we might have this problem at some point too! > Hi. > My 14-year-old son was taking inositol for about 2 months. Guest guest
My ds has pandas and had a bad, bad virus two months ago which threw him back into tics,ocd,etc.,. He had been symptom free for two years! We increased the meds to 20mg without a lot of significance. It helped with some of the ocd but he was so irritable, very hard to live with most days. We decided to try the inositol and I have to be honest I was so upset that I went right to the 3 tsp a day dose. By the third day we all noticed a difference. I even ran out and tried a different brand without the same benefit. Went back on the other brand and he is just calmer, more pleasant. I am a believer now and never gave it much credit before. Does the effect wear off? Can they use it forever? Thanks Lynne From: " " <@...> Reply- Subject: Re: inositol question Date: Thu, 21 Apr 2005 03:01:26 -0000 Hi Kim, My ideas ran along Kathy's lines. Guest guest
Hi Lynne, Out of curiousity, what brand? We used Source Naturals; it worked so I want to go back on it. Others have used different brands that worked well. Gee, imagine trialing thru different inositol brands to see " which works " like is sometimes done with SSRI's!! Once had been " stable " and doing well for a while (lots of months!), we backed down on the inositol dose a bit over time and he still did well. If he had an occasional stressful/anxious day, we'd just give him extra. As to wearing off at some point, I know that when we were on the " maintenance " dose of 1 tsp/day, he had a flare-up of OCD and I just increased the dose. But I was wondering if it might poop out at some point and this is one reason we tried Celexa too, our first prescription med. Really, I don't know if inositol can " poop out " so I guess it's a wait-and-see thing and maybe up to the individual person. was on it all through middle school I guess, so it worked well for quite a while, at least I was pleased with it in the long-run! > My ds has pandas and had a bad, bad virus two months ago which threw him > back into tics,ocd,etc.,. Guest guest
Hi I use Solaray ( I think that is how it is spelled) and give the 1 tsp three times a day. He loves how it makes him feel good-just calm and less intense. What would a higher dose be for tackling more problems? We still use the 20mg prozac (up from 15 since the virus) but really I think the inositol has helped more overall. I am so amazed myself and keep waiting for " the other shoe to drop " as we all do with this stuff. Guest guest
Kim, Hard to say re the Aspergers; or rather hard to remember. He seemed to be much more AS in middle school, racing thru the halls, etc. Puberty seemed to hit him with OCD and a bit more AS ways. Now when he got on Celexa right before beginning 9th grade, I thought that helped in some AS ways. He seemed to do more for himself or more willing to try. Who knows, age or meds? But if he goes back on inositol this summer, I'll pay attention! > FWIW, my son's experiencing success with GNC's house brand. Guest guest
Hi It is all natural with no additives. I have to be very careful with all my kids who are allergy sensitive. Solaray is the brand name. I was just thinking again this morning as I measured it out to put in the cup that I cannot believe the effect thus far. I am not ready to d/c any other meds or anything but it has really, really helped. Guest guest
Hi The brand that is working is Soloray. The one that did not work, big dissappointment was an Country Life. My ds and I laugh about it because it says on the bottle how it is a natural sugar source for the body and it sure has sweetened him up alot! What I wondered from you is what was the highest amount you gave in one dose? I have not passed one tsp three times a day but may try more over the summer if his med dose goes back down. Also, I totally agree on putting it in little sunny d or gatorade bottles for trips like the school issue someone brought up. That is a great idea. Do you think we all have a special place in heaven:). All this thinking and planning and worrying-yikes! All this thinking and planning and worrying-yikes! ------ Not sure about heaven; just hope for a special thank you from that special kid someday. I'm the mom who was trying to figure out inositol on the band trip. I was thinking about the little pre-mixed juice boxes last night - I wonder if it would affect the potency? LIke with baking soda, it loses its 'rising ability' sitting in fluid. Would it need to be refrigerated? I wonder whom I'd ask about that? Might ask the guy at the health food store. He's flaky but he might know. kimz
Guest guest
Hi-I have a great contact at the vitamin store I go to. She told me we should also be adding a B complex as Inositol can deplete the other B's is used alone. So that is helpful. I pre-mix mine now-not for days but to make sure it mixes well - it sits for about 30min to an hour. It would be good to ask for sure. I plan to do that too someday when a trip comes up our way. He's flaky but he might know. kimz
Guest guest
I think anyone who is dealing with a child & OCD deserves a special place! I actually began rounding 's teaspoons and gave them to him 3- 4x a day during his worst periods. So he actually got a " bit " more at those times. And if he asked for more during the day, I gave it to him. So some days he might have gotten 5 tsp or so. He'd get it in the a.m. before school; then I got home from work at 5:30pm; then again before bed. But sometimes he'd ask for it around 8 or so too. Weekends I tried to even it out more during the day so he generally got the 4x/day then during those first bad months. I just recall some school nights it seemed he'd have it 2-4x after my getting home from work and he'd be all stressed. The next day might be less anxious/stress and he'd just get the 3x/day. (This was that first year) Once he settled down (OCD/anxiety seemed to wane and he was stable), we generally did 2-3 tsps (rounded) a day. Later got down to 1 tsp a day for quite a while. Just always gave him more if he asked for it during the year. His inositol powder measured 845mg for 1/4 tsp. > Hi > The brand that is working is Soloray. Guest guest
Hmm. I wouldn't know what vit. B dosage to give a 100'lb kid. He gets multi-vitamins. Wonder if that would be enough? I don't really trust my health food store guy. I'll have to ask around a bit. Good to know, though. kimz Re: Re: inositol question Date: Fri, 22 Apr 2005 08:23:00 -0400 Do you think we all have a special place in heaven:). Guest guest
Hi Kim, I wondered about the potency thing too. You might ask the manufacturer--surely they would know how stable their product is in a liquid, and for how long. If you go with the juice box idea, don't get a brand with toddler characters on it. My daughter has warned me against this repeatedly LOL. As far as health food store employees, I think flaky is a job requirement... :-) Every one I've spoken with fits that description to one degree or another. Does your son think any of the ideas will work for him while he's on his trip? Does he have a helpful friend going on the trip who might be willing to help him remember to drink his inositol? My dd has appealed to a couple of school friends who are good with details to prompt her about books needed at home and so on, which has worked pretty well. Guest guest
I am interested in how inositol is processed in the body. I have been giving my daughter TMG supplement, just a quarter of a pill, along with precursers needed to process phenols and that has been very helpful, along with no-fenol and zyme prime; but, there are a few things that still agrivate her, one which is strange is rice cakes! She loves them and everytime I test rice cakes I get a 7 points of problem with phenols or something else, maybe it is the inositol? Since it is in whole grains? Anyone know the process of how inositol or how beta carotene is processed in the body so I can help my daughter assimilate these? Thanks, LT
