Guest guest
Hello! I'm new to this group, and have a question or two about digestive enzymes. First off, I'm a 24-years-old male, and recently started digestive enzyme supplementation for the reason of improving overall digestion and intestinal health. This is the first time I've ever taken a digestive enzyme. I did a lot of research, and decided to purchase Wholezyme from a Whole Foods store, as it seemed like it covered a broad spectrum. It's a vegetarian supplement, and the serving size is 2 capsules. Here are the ingredients and dosages of this product: Bromelain (from pineapple) 120 GDU Papain (from papaya fruit) 600,000 FCCPU Protease 3.0 (from aspergillus oryzae) 10 SAPU Amylase (from aspergillus oryzae) 400 DU Lipase (from aspergillus niger) 60 FCCLU Protease 4.5 (from aspergillus oryzae) 400 HUT Lactase (from aspergillus oryzae) 20 ALU Cellulase (from trichodema longbrachitatum) 10 CU Hemicellulase (from aspergillus niger) 10 HCU Now, I've used two servings (2 capsules) before a meal in the last two days. What I've noticed is some stomach aches afterwards. The last time I took a dosage was yesterday at about 7PM, and my stomach still feels somewhat sour. I haven't vomited or anything like that, and it hasn't gotten very severe, but it's still there and a bit concerning. Now, I read on www.enzymestuff.com (where I also found this group) that such a reaction can happen with products containing proteases, and they recommend stopping usage for 4 or 5 days, and then start again. I know I'm not going to take any more until this completely subsides at the least, and when I do, I'm thinking of taking one capsule instead of the recommended serving size of two that I did before. Would this be a good approach? Maybe this reaction was because I started out with too much? Have any of you taken this specific supplement, or something similar ingredient-wise and had any negative effect? Anybody here that has experienced stomach aches similar to what I have? Any suggestions are very welcome. Thank you for your time, and I look forward to hearing your opinions!
