Activated charcoal as soon as you find out - worked brill for us when Sam

sniffed out his brothers Easter Egg - practcially on the ceiling, top of wall

cupboard - no yeasty after effects - we don't have infraction behaviours to G

& C since we came off the diet with HNI in 2001 :)

Grapefruit seed extract (for the yeast) is great and renew life has this new

thing called intestinew (for the gut irritation and inflammation. Nice tasting

so can be added to juice). Also try some heavy enzyme doses when he wakes up for

any undigested foods. The GSE I have found clears up yeast issues real fast but

not too much and give with no phenol as yeast die off can happen too quickly.

Hang in there. I know exactly how you feel. Remember he is worth it and that you

are incredible Mom for even taking on this battle and making sure your son is

not just a statistic. Great job and hats off to you and your hubby. Don't be too

hard on him. He is probably tired too :-) Good luck.

Disasterous Infraction...

My son was up at 3:00am last night, and it was my DH turn to be up

with him, so of course, he slept through it. Near as we can tell

this morning, he ate at least 1 home made regular (non-diet)

chocolate chip cookie, a hanful of store bought gummy bears and who

knows how much nutella chocolate hazelnut spread- he was eating it

off of a spoon that he got out of the drawer, when he was done, he

put the spoon back in the drawer with the clean spoons. Not to

mention that he got into the bathroom medicine cabinet into my

contac lenses and lost one- I hope he didn't eat it, too.

Biggest problem, he has been gluten, casein, soy, corn, yeast, coco,

peanut, and all sugar (except stevia) free for over a year and a

half.

When I got up this morning, about 8:00am, he had just fell asleep on

the living room couch, and his cheeks are flaming red. Another

problem, his yeast is up right now- the reason he's off of all forms

of sugar is because he has yeast problems, and I've been increasing

his yeast protocol the last few days.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can do with this?

I'm frustrated and tired and don't know where to turn today.

Thanks.

Amber.

The red cheeks can be either yeast or phenols. GSE is also high

phenol, but is great for yeast. For today, try to push water to get

everything through his system, and frequent small servings of

protein/fat, with extremely limited starch/carbs. No Fenol would

help with yeast and phenols, although it's probably too late for a

protease (but it might not hurt.)

In the future...is it possible to keep stuff like that locked up? I

don't keep anything in the house they can't eat, but we're on a

rotation schedule so I put only the foods for that day within reach -

otherwise my son will help himself too. What about locking up

foods, if you have anything off-limits in the house?

Have you tried an antifungal-NoFenol-Threelac (or similar probiotic)

combo, for yeast? That is what finally did it for my very, very

yeasty children.

Take care.

Yes, I give him sacchromyses boulardii and kirkman pro-bio gold. He gets all

three houston enzymes, and gave him a healthy dose of them all when I got

up. He also gets GSE, which he also got a healthy dose of this morning. I am

pushing water. He is in the bathtub right now, giggling, to get the

chocolate off of him.

The things that he got into were put in a cupboard up high- he had to do a

lot of climbing and digging to get at them.

Thanks, everyone for your advice, I sure appreciate all of it.

At school they just put " locks " on all my cabinets and they are near impossible

to get off - they are by Safety First - Safety 1st Cabinet Flex-Lock

here is a picture of it:

http://pediatrics.about.com/od/safety/ss/childproofing_2.htm

It requires two hands to push two " buttons " while pulling it out - took me a

while to figure it out as they put them on my cabinets after I was gone for the

day. I came in the other day and there they were - LOL Not very pretty but

worth the peace of mind at night maybe?

Amber,

I don't know that there is anything you can do about what is done ...

except get right back on the correct way of eating. However there

are things you can do to prevent this from happening again. Go to

Home Depot. Buy a tool chest ... a large black one on wheel (it is

huge inside) and padlock the thing shut. Put any forbidden items in

it that doesn't need refrigerated. I keep one of these things in my

dining room with a table cloth over it. Looks like a side table.

And then pad lock your refrigerator shut. We used a hinged lock and

just drilled it right into the side of the refrigerator and into the

side of the freezer for our up and down old fashion refrigerator. We

now have a side by side ... and use a plastic chain that we have cut

to the right size and put a padlock around the handles

.... Put an alarm on your kids door so you know when he gets up and

leaves it. They are cheap and easy to install. Go to the alarm

section in Home Depot and ask them for a contact alarm stand alone

device. It screeches loudly when the door is opened. That way you

know when your son has left his room. We have these on his window, on

his door and on the outside doors of our house. That way he is safe

and we can rest knowing we will be woke up if he gets up. It is easy

to not hear a child get up through the middle of the night. I have

not heard my son on occasion too.... But not anymore ... It has kept

him from being a night stalker ... because he knows we know he is up.

He actually sleeps one hundred percent better now ... because there

is no longer any fun on getting up ... he doesn't get the house to

himself to raid ... their is nothing fun to raid and we know he is

up...

Epsom salt bath and Pepcid AC.

I'm sorry to hear about your son's infractions. When we were GFCF, we had

all of that stuff out of the house. because my other daughter would

accidentally give her something, and not know. It was just a lot easier to

deal with. There were things that my husband refused to give up, so that

stuff we had in the closet in our room, at the very highest shelf. The kids

never went into our room, and if they did, we knew. all of the stuff in our

cabinets and fridge were GFCF.

I wouldn't beat myself up over it too hard. My daughter had an infraction

here & there (thus, the closet system). Just make sure you use a lock or

hiding methods, and clear out everything within his reach. We also put GFCF

snacks in viewable areas, so she could see the goodies she could have first,

if she decided to raid the cabinets while we slept.

Along with the other's suggestions, you may want to give him an Epsom salt

bath to help draw the " bad stuff " out.

Good Luck,

Aubrey
