Guest guest
> I don't know anything about plagio yet but are they saying my child > could die??????????? > I didn't think this was a rare condition! Is this report crazy or am > i? I am nervous because I don't want my baby to have occular > problems or facial deformities but I have never considered death as > an issue of this, has anyone else? No! This is local news reporting--sensational and incomplete--at its worst. As a journalism professor and the mother of a child with plagiocephaly, I'm outraged by the shoddy and alarmist nature of this story. We have no idea from the story of the conditions surrounding Mr. Darcy's death. It is wonderful that the foundation was established to help other people, and it is commendable that the Palmeris sought to publicize this seriously underpublicized condition. But, sadly, the Palmeris had no control over how the story would be written or presented. In this case, I'd say that no publicity is better than bad publicity. Please do not worry unnecessarily about your baby's health. While the research (which the reporter never bothered to consult) shows the kinds of long-term effects of plagiocephaly you mentioned and that we all fear, it does not point to the kinds of tragedies that the Darcy family underwent. The condition is anything but rare; there has been an epidemic of plagiocephaly in the years since the " Back to Sleep " campaign began. Ask anyone here--the neurosurgeons and orthotists we work with can attest to this sharp increase and can point to their schedules, full of children whose families wish they could have gotten earlier appointment dates. To the professionals who read this board: please help to diffuse the effects of this irresponsible reporting by speaking up, here and especially in the communities " served " by this television station. , Conor's mom
Guest guest
I am sort of outraged by that little video clip !!! It makes Plagio out to be some Aweful disease. Which it is NOT!! It is nice that some one out there is willing to get the word out about plagio however the wrong impresson of plagio is not what anyone wants the world to know.I wonder if we could find the e-mail address to that TV station and send them e-mails saying that this was misrepresenting Plagio. It may have been a rare disease 10 years ago but it seems the more I talk to people, the more people have heard of it, but don't quite know much about it. Does anyone know when that story aired??
