You will probably receive many good suggestions which should be

considered. Our " behavior " situation ended up being an undiagnosed

case of strep throat which resulted in severe behavior problems. My

son's throat was not red nor sore by the time I asked for a throat

culture for strep throat. The culture came back positive for strep

and the strep antibody levels were extremely high. My son

eventually fit the criteria for PANDAS. My PANDAS webpage is down

right now, back up in a few days, but meanwhile you can read some

about PANDAS at http://intramural.nimh.nih.gov/pdn/web.htm . I'll

soon get my info back up at www.enzymestory.com/PANDAS.html .

It's so hard to diagnose behavior changes, but I wanted to share our

story. I hope you find your answer soon.

Just want you to know I support you on not going the medication route. I have a

10 yr AS son who was on meds for 3 years. He was like a zombie and was so

skinny because of lack of appetite. I started the enzymes about 2 months ago

and tried taking my son off the meds. It was fine. In fact, people are telling

me I have a boy with personality. He has already gained 5 pounds since going

off the meds. No other advice except " hang in there " Maybe some social stories

can help.... Good luck

He also takes the Houstons trio of Enzymes and GABA he is also color free.

Latley he has been aggressive with other children. The aggressiveness has

progressively gotten worse and worse with in the last 2 weeks.

I do not know what to do. I have not done anything different. About 3 weeks

ago he did have a Gluten infraction. I thought that was what this was but

now that some other things have subsided this still remains and seems to be

getting worse, which leads me to believe that this may not be the Gluten. The

only other thing different is he usually takes HN- Zyme prime ( with the papaya

and pinapple) but Houstons sent me the kind with out by mistake and he has been

taking that but only for the last maybe 4 days.

Please help me. I am afraid to even let him go to school. Tonight he hit a

girl on his soccer team with a ball in the stomach and then tried to do it

again to some one else. Now my DH ( who has been supportive in the past)

thinks

we should just forget all the stuff we have been doing and just medicate!!!

I don't want to medicate, the diet worked so well I thought I would never

have to discuss medication ever again and now this.

I know that some of you do medicate and I do not think that it is bad it is

just not something I want to do right now. He is only 5.

He is such a sweet boy and I want some one else to know that too!!!

Please can anyone give me some advice on how I can get my sweet boy back

again?

Hi ,

This may be oversimplifying the matter, but could your son be tired

or over stimulated? Is soccer a new thing for him? My five year

old NT daughter gets pretty exhausted just from her new experience

at kindergarten and then she has soccer two nights a week. The

coaches are telling the kids what to do and the parents are yelling.

Kind of a stressful environment. Also my 11 year old came home from

school just yesterday completly shagged from school and swim

practice the night before. His behavoir yesterday was not normal for

him. In this day and age, we really expect a lot from these kiddos.

Maybe he just needs more down time and another kind of sport...team

sports are great...just not for everyone.

I agree with Robyn. Benny was overstimulated by his speech therapy and would go

back to

school, even after having a good session, bouncing and hitting and kicking

everybody,

students and teachers, for a while last spring. He was somewhat better after we

suspended the speech therapy...although I'm afraid I have to say, we finally got

completely

rid of this behavior when his pediatrician gave him 2.5 mg of Adderal/day. It

stopped

completely overnight. We were afraid he would be thrown out of Head Start! But

overstimulation was a big part of the problem...impulse control, possibly from

ADHD,

seemed to be the rest.

Peace,

Kathy E.

kids with ASD are usually 2 years behind their NT peers in maturity. 3 yr. olds

go through a period of hitting, so this could be " typical " behavior.

Latley he has been aggressive with other children. The aggressiveness has

progressively gotten worse and worse with in the last 2 weeks.

I do not know what to do. I have not done anything different.

You don't mention a yeast protocol. Yeast can cause aggressive

behavior. If you haven't already, you might try grapefruit seed

extract or caprylic acid.

For my son, yeast, virus issues, EFA deficiency, deficiencies of

certain vitamins, and a few other things, caused aggression.

Giving EFAs without mito cocktail and amino acids caused major aggression.

Some kids appear to need the papain/bromelain. Ask for a new bottle.

My question is: What if the child had never been treated fo strep?

Would the titers just go up and down. I think my son's first

episode probably occured 6 yrs ago. My son is also severely

apraxic. I am wondering if the swelling of the basal ganglia could

cause the apraxia. I am waiting on Jack's 2nd strep test the AOS

was over 600 RR-200. Two years ago he had a SPEC scan which stated

there was slowing of blood flow in the basal ganglia.

The titers would go up with a new infection and down as his body's

natural defenses fight the infection. It can take a long time for

the titers to drop, even when the infection has been successfully

treated with antibiotics.

Movement disorders have been associated with the basal ganglia; you

can do a pubmed.com search or google search and find lots of info to

sort through. Also, Tourette's websites are often a good resource

for this topic.
