We started shots on Thanksgiving Day. We added nasal spray about 11 weeks

ago. When we started shots my son was already very verbal but not at all

conversational, still isn't. But back then he would only sing the last word of a

line of a song when it was either playing or if you sang and left off the last

word. They started a new song of the month at school to coincide with the class

getting caterpillars and watching them change to butterflies. Two days after

this being sung at circle time 2x a day (and my son not singing with his

class) he started belting this out at home yesterday.

I had to hide the camcorder. If he sees it he won't perform. These are the

words

First comes a butterfly and lays an egg,

Out comes the caterpillar with many legs.

Oh, see the caterpillar spin and spin,

A little chrysalis to sleep in.

Oh, oh, oh, look and see

Oh, oh, oh, look and see

Out of the chrysalis my, oh, my

Out comes a pretty butterfly.

We do both together now. Shots every 3 days, spray every day. The shots are

easiest for us because he sleeps through it. He's pretty good for the spray

too but sometimes there is a little bit of resistance.

Since you used both the spray and shots, do you felt one is more

Wahoo! Congratulations to your family!!!

Since you used both the spray and shots, do you felt one is more

preferable over the other??? Seems like the spray would be easier.

He was 4 at the end of November. Even when he had very few words, his

speech was always clear and there are always comments on his speech evals about

no

articulation issues. His speech issues are tons of scripting, repetitive

speech, echolalia, and only about 30% of his speech is used to communicate

appropriately. I had to fight a war for speech therapy because they told me he

had too much language. NO, he doesn't, he has lots of words and talks alot but

I wouldn't call what he does " having language " KWIM?

Kerrie, how old is your son? His speech seems very clear, at least

Sure do, Kerrie, that's what ours was like, in the beginning, prechelation,

tons of words, but would talk " at you " not to you. Words are great, even

greater to use them to communicate what you want. We did no speech and still

she falls way ahead of age level now.Great work!
