Guest guest
Hi! I just want to report on our son's recent improvement. Last February we started using AFP/Peptizide after 9 months with no improvement on the GFCF diet. We saw amazing improvments and continued the enzymes with every meal/snack until this summer. We then noticed that he could 'skip' on occasion with no regression or negative effects. Then we began forgetting his enzymes until by this fall when school began he was taking the enzymes sporadically or not at all. He did fine for a month and a half, then gradually his negative behaviors cropped up and then became just horrible. I did suspect yeast, but I began the AFP/Peptizide first, this time starting a strict regimen. But then one day I added one GSE capsule and one No- phenol in the morning before school. He was the CALMEST he had been in 2 months! No giggling, sensory behaviors, hyperactivity. Well, the school took credit for his 'improvements' and I thought at first it was due to the AFP/Peptizide. The next three days we did the AFP but not the GSE/No-phenol combination. His behaviors worsened a little at first and then by the third day, were almost, but not quite, as bad as before. This morning I again, gave him the GSE/no-phenol combo. We had a happy, calm child again! I know it is too early to tell, but it may be that the yeast was causing his behaviors. He did not have a typical yeast 'die-off' reaction, which may be because of the high amounts of proteases he is getting with every meal on the AFP enzymes. I am thrilled - we were getting to the end of our rope, nothing was working!! I am very interested in beginning a chelation regimen. I have hesitated because of the lack of consensus on methods and information. It is really difficult for parents when each professional uses a different dose, drug, substance, and schedule. I have been to two DAN! dr's so far that I did not feel like trusting, and will try another in January. I like Andy Cutler's chelation protocal, but I'm having difficulty finding a practitioner in my area to help. Ironically, I live near Sammamish, WA where Andy Cutler lives. This enzyme stuff makes sense to me (THANKS KAREN!!!!) but chelation could not be more confusing. eeeek. Well that is our next step. I have waited long enough already. I have been so afraid and unable to trust practitioners of any kind - but I need to try chelation for my son. Sorry about the vent. This list has been the most helpful resource I have found ANYWHERE for Autism so far. Thanks,
