Jaya and Kendra,

Do you know if this could happen out of the top of the band as well?

I noticed what looked like a bulge on Drew's head but it was on top

of his head (right near the edge of the hole) not in between the

gap. It was there for about three days, but appears to have shrunk

since yesterday. I called CT, but they couldn't really explain what

it was.

Thanks,

Lily

Lily:

I've never heard of a bulge above the top of the band. Could it be a goose egg?

Let us know what your clinician says.

Lily,

I have not heard of that before. Is it possible that he could have

bumped his head? The bands save our little ones from many bumps and

bruises, but the top of the head is still susceptable.

It is possible that it could be a fluid retention, but I have only

heard of fluid retaining where the velcro closure is and around the

eyes....i had both (the eyes in the beginning and the velrco

closure still to this day).

If it is going away then it will probably be okay. But if it doesn't

go away or if gets bigger I would definately call the doctor or CT to

try and find out what is causing it.

Let us know how you make out!

Sincerely,

Jaya Dong

Lily,

I just wanted to follow up with you because I spoke with our OT over

at CT. She said that it is possible to get a bump or lump on the top

of the head near the rim if the band is tightened too much. So you

may want to be sure that you are only patting the velcro down

wherever it falls and not pulling on it at all.

How is the bump doing? Is it still there?

Sincerely,

Jaya Dong

Hi Jaya,

Thanks so much for asking on our behalf! When I called CT, they

didn't know what the bump could be caused by (although I didn't speak

with the orthotist, just the receptionist). The bump had gone away

at that point so I figured I'd just wait and see. So far it hasn't

come back, although I do notice that Drew's head is not level, it

kinda has a rolling surface (but I guess that's probably normal).

I will bring it up with the orthotist at our appointment this week.

I never pull on the velcro, so I don't think it could be too much

tightening. And I don't remember him falling in a way that could

have caused that bump. It was right on top of his head and he would

have had to have fallen straight down on his noggin.

Anyway, I will keep an eye on it, and hopefully, it won't come back.

Thanks again.

Lily

P.S.

i is adorable. Drew is half asian, half caucasion as well. I

think he's adorable too (but I'm a little biased).
